I sing so I won’t cry,
I sing just to get by.
I slowly close my eyes,
Pretend I’m someplace else
Where the world feels light,
And the soul can rest a while.

I sing a song I can’t recall,
To hush the silent calls,
To hide the growing pain,
To quiet down the strain.
So much is missing, so much gone,
Something beautiful I long for
Something that speaks without a sound,
That unravels all the knots I’ve found,
That answers what I never say,
And holds me when I fade away.
I sing so I won’t be lost,
To pretend I know the cost.
I sing softly in the dark,
As if I’m searching for a spark.

Let this melody carry me
To where the hurt sets me free
To where what’s missing
Doesn’t matter anymore to me.
