"Cress waited three whole seconds before launching herself into Kai's arms with a sob she hadn't known she'd been holding in.
Kai stumbled back in surprise, but returned the embrace, letting her cry into his very fine silk shirt.
'Calm down,' Kai said, stroking her hair. 'You're all right now.'
'I'm sorry. It's just...really, really good to see you.'
Kai gently held Cress away so he could see her face.
She looked up at him.
But no. He was already married.
Her focus darted to the side.
'Cress?' said Kai, stealing back her attention.
She licked her lips.
Kai's expression froze for a moment, before he tilted his head back and let out a long, slow breath..."

Cress: Oh, Kai. Everyone around me is falling. Everyone is dying. Thorne...Cinder...
Cress: I don't know how we can defeat Levana.
Cress: It's all so much to take in. My friends...
Cress: Who knows what's happened to them?
Kai: I feel exactly as you do. At least we have each other, and this.
Cress: W-Wha...?
Kai: *pulls out medallion*
Cress: You still have that? You...kept it with you?
Kai: Mm-hmm. I'll never let go of it, ever.
Cress: That is, if you don't die.
Kai: Trust me, there are lots of things weighing on my plausible death. This doesn't need to be another one.
Cress: Oh, Kai. Thank you.
Kai: For what?
Cress: For being great. For being amazing. For...for being there for me.
Kai: Of course. I would do anything for you, Cress.
Cress: Really?!
Kai: Uh...a-and everyone else...
Cress: Oh.
