21: More Than Friends

Osana Najimi x Taro Yamada:

"You're late again!" Osana complained to Taro as they walked to school.
"I'm sorry." He apologised, looking down at the floor.
"You always do this to me." She continued angrily. He sighed, feeling guilty for letting Osana down again.
"If it bothers you so much, why do you wait for me every day?" He asked, looking up at Osana. She shook her head softly, trying to mask the worry on her face.
"That's not what I... whatever! Just meet me on the roof at lunchtime." She demanded, folding her arms. He looked at her a little confused.
"Why?" They looked up and saw that they had arrived at the school building.
"Stop being difficult!" She snapped, unfolding her arms and hitting him on the arm. "Just be there, ok Baka!" She walked away from Taro to her class before the bell went.

That lunch, Osana and Taro sat on the school roof together. Osana had 2 bento boxes in her hands, one for herself and one for Taro. She put her's on her lap and handed him his.
"You made me this?" He asked, taking the box from her.
"N-no! I made too much this morning, so you can have the extras." She snapped, as they both opened their boxes.
"This is delicious, Osana." Taro said, eating more from his bento box. She looked down and blushed, a small smile on her face.
"R-really?" She said, looking up at him once she was sure the blush on her face had gone.
"Yeah! This is really good!" He grinned, resting the box on his lap and putting his arm around her. She tensed up for a second, before relaxing again and resting her head on his shoulder.
"Maybe I'll make you bentos every day." She smirked, eating more from her box.

That Friday, Osana stood under the cherry blossom tree waiting for Taro. In her hand was a letter to Taro from Osana confessing her feelings. She'd had a crush on him for years, but hadn't had the courage to confess her feelings. She knew she wasn't the only one with feelings for him, so she wanted to be the first to confess. She heard heavy breathing from behind the tree, so Osana went to investigate. Behind the tree was a masked person holding a knife.
"Why have you got a knife? What are you going to do?" Osana asked, backing away. The masked person said nothing, instead charging at Osana, trying to stab her. She fought back, trying not to get stabbed. 'Please help me Taro.' Osana thought, hoping Taro was on his way to the tree.
"Osana!" She heard a shout from nearby. She took her attention away from her attacker for a moment to see Taro sprinting over to her. That moment was enough for the attacker to stab her knife into Osana's shoulder before sprinting away. She screamed and fell to the floor in shock. "Osana!" He shouted again, running to her side.
"Taro!" She shouted softer than usual as the pain filled her body. Her shoulder was becoming wet from the blood. He immediately dropped to her side and hugged her, making sure not to touch the wound.
"Please don't die on me, Osana." He cried as Osana passed him the letter she was still holding. He put it in his back pocket and picked up Osana bridal style. "Please be ok."

"Osana." Taro murmured, sitting on the hospital chair. Osana had passed out from the blood loss, and was still unconscious. "What did you want to say to me earlier?" He thought back, and remembered the letter she had given him. He opened it and read it silently to himself.
Taro.
I know I've not been the nicest person, but I never was good with my emotions. I was so mean because I was in love with you. I don't know why I was so scared to tell you this, but I guess I just was. I've had feelings for you for years. I hope you accept my feelings, and nothing changes between us if you don't feel the same. I love you Baka.

"Taro?..." He heard a weak voice from the bed. He put down the letter and saw Osana looking at him. She had a weak smile on her face, as well as a small blush on her cheeks. He didn't say anything, instead kissing her on the lips. "Why did you kiss me, Baka!" She snapped defensively once he had stopped kissing her.
"What? I'm not allowed to kiss my girlfriend now?" He smirked, blushing as well. Her eyes widened in shock, while the rest of her was confused.
"G-girlfriend?" She stuttered. He nodded his head, making Osana smile. She kissed him on the lips as he kissed back a second later.
"I love you, Osana." Taro smiled, hugging her and making sure not to hurt her wound.
"I love you, Baka!"
