AU!: Taro Yamada x Cupa Kurosagi:

Cupa's cheeks blushed a little as she glanced over at Taro, her crush. She had such strong feelings, and was almost scared of him rejecting her. She hadn't been feeling 100% over the past few weeks, and she didn't know why. She coughed again, and saw a couple of Anemone petals in her hand lightly splattered with her own blood. This wasn't new. She had been coughing up petals for several months now, ever since she developed a crush on Taro, but this was the first time they'd been bloody.
"Are you alright, Cupa?" Ayano asked, looking over at her cousin with concern. Ayano was sitting with Cupa, and knew of her crush on Taro.
"I-I'm fine." Cupa insisted, making sure Ayano couldn't see the petals in her hand. She hadn't told anyone about the petals, as she didn't want people worrying. She also didn't know why she'd been coughing up petals, she almost believed she had been cursed. She stood up and picked up her bag. "Give me 5 minutes, ok?" Cupa asked. Ayano nodded, and Cupa smiled at her in relief. She ran out of the courtyard as Ayano looked over at Taro.

"Oka, I think I'm cursed." Cupa said as she entered the occult club room. Oka was alone, to Cupa's relief. The occult club president looked up at her as she coughed up a few more bloody petals.
"O-oh..." Oka stuttered, as Cupa showed her the Anemone petals. She started searching the bookshelf to see if she had anything about the flower petals. "There's nothing about this here... I don't know what type of curse causes this..."
"That's because it's not a curse." Ayano's voice came from the doorway. She'd been curious, and had followed Cupa to the occult club. She shut the door behind her as she stepped closer in to the occult club before she spoke again. "The petals are a result of Hanahaki disease. Almost anyone could see that." She stated.
"W-what?" Cupa asked, before coughing up more petals. She was petrified she would die, as she knew it could be a death sentence.
"What you have is a very severe case of Hanahaki disease. You need to confess your feelings to Taro as soon as possible. It's the only way." Ayano stated. Cupa's face turned pale at the thought. She shook her head, collapsing to the floor in fear.
"I-I can't. What if s-someone confesses to h-him?" She stuttered through her fear. Ayano couldn't respond before Cupa threw up a small pile of petals and blood. Just the thought alone made her feel awful. She didn't want to die. "O-or what if he r-rejects me?"
"I promise he won't." Ayano stated, sitting down in front of Cupa. The taste of blood had started filling Cupa's mouth, and she absolutely hated it. "I'll murder everyone who wants to confess to Taro." She stated. Oka, who was still in the room and had been listening to their conversation in silence, made a small gasp which caught Ayano and Cupa's attention. They had almost forgotten she was in the room also. Oka had feelings for Taro, she didn't want to die either.
"Cupa." She sighed as she sat down with Cupa and Ayano. "I liked Taro, but I won't confess to him. I won't take him from you." She promised. Cupa looked at her with the first glimmer of hope in her eyes since she had found out about her Hanahaki disease.
"A-are you sure?" Cupa asked hesitantly. Oka nodded her head, smiling.
"Yeah. Not being with Taro won't kill me." She laughed a little awkwardly, before she stopped as she remembered Cupa would actually die without Taro accepting her love confession. "I'll find someone else, don't worry about me."
"Thank you." She smiled as she hugged her. Ayano decided to stand up and sit in the corner of the room so she could privately message her childhood best friend known by others as Info-chan.
Ayano: I need some help Info-chan
Info-chan: What do you mean?
Ayano: My cousin had Hanahaki disease. She needs to confess to Taro, but she's too scared someone will take him, or he will reject her.
Info-chan: How is my assistance required?
Ayano: I need to know who has feelings for Taro so I can eliminate them for her.
Info-chan: You're asking the right person. I'd be glad to help. I'll let you know who plans to confess to Taro as soon as I know.
Ayano: Thank you so much, Info-chan.

"I'm nervous, Ayano." Cupa admitted. She and Ayano were sat on the school roof overlooking the courtyard. It had been a few months since Cupa found out she had Hanahaki disease, and it had gotten progressively worse. Today was Friday, and Ayano had eliminated everyone who planned to confess their love to Taro. Cupa coughed again, and more bloody petals fell on to her hand.
"Don't be, Cupa. He'll definitely accept your love confession." She promised. Cupa smiled weakly at her as she threw the petals into her bag before coughing up more. The Hanahaki disease was getting worse, and it felt like only a matter of time before it killed her.
"I hope so." She said softly, before looking down at the courtyard. From where she was sat, she could see Taro sat by the fountain reading his favourite book. Ayano looked over at her and smiled softly. She wasn't worried about Taro rejecting her cousin, he had no reason to.

That day after school, Cupa and Taro met up under the cherry blossom tree. Cupa was so nervous about confessing her feelings to him, but she didn't have much choice. It was the only way to cure her Hanahaki disease.
"Taro... I'm in love with you." Cupa confessed, her face blushing a little red. She looked down at her hands as she continued. "I'm really in love with you. I can't describe this feeling inside when I'm close to you. Please don't reject me." She was softer and quieter wth her words when she asked him not to reject her. She was so scared he would anyway.
"Cupa... I'm sorry." He apologised. "I don't share the same feelings." He said casually, shrugging his shoulders at her. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Rejection. She could feel it was starting to become harder to breathe. She began to choke on some Anemone petals that had stuck themselves in her throat, scaring Taro a little. He hadn't seen the petals. "Cupa? Cupa are you ok?" She couldn't respond to him as she continued choking. "Stay calm, I'll go get help." He nearly yelled before sprinting away from Cupa and going to get a teacher.

Ayano and Oka were walking towards the cherry blossom tree when they saw Cupa. Taro was nowhere in sight. As they got closer, they could see she was choking.
"Cupa!" They both shouted as they started sprinting towards her. She looked over at them weakly as a drop of blood started running out of her slightly open mouth. At her feet was a small pile of bloody Anemone petals.
"Cupa what happened?" Ayano asked in complete fear as Cupa dropped to her knees. She had run ahead of Oka, seriously concerned for her cousin.
"H-he... rejected... me..." Cupa said, coughing up more and more blood and petals in between every word. Tears were starting to run out of her eyes as she fully knew she was dying.
"I'm going to beat the shit out of him when I see him next." She muttered, sitting down beside Cupa. Oka caught up to them, sitting on the other side of Cupa. She continued struggling to breathe, it getting harder every second she was still alive. "Calm down, Cupa. Please." Ayano begged as she heard Cupa sobbing as she tried to breathe.
"Stay calm." Oka echoed Ayano, concerned for her friend. They all knew she was dying, and couldn't do anything to save her. The only one who could was Taro, but he had unknowingly let her die.
"I-I'm... sorry." She choked out almost silently, before falling on to her back almost dead. Tears started to roll down Ayano's cheeks, seeing her cousin die in front of her. Cupa was the only one in her family she had a strong relationship with, now she was dying and Ayano couldn't do anything to help her.
"Cupa!" Ayano shouted as Cupa stopped breathing. She desperately tried to perform CPR with no success. She didn't stop even though she knew it was too late.
"A-Ayano. The teacher's coming." Oka said quietly, wiping away a small tear of her own. She had seen Taro running back to the tree with a teacher, but he was too late. She was best friends with Cupa, and had to watch her die in front of her. She could only imagine what Ayano was going through. Oka had lost her friend while Ayano had lost family. That had to hurt more.

Taro eventually reached the tree with the teacher where Cupa's body lay, and immediately felt guilt. He saw the bloody Anemone petals on the ground, and realised they had come from Cupa. A small trail of blood was falling from her slightly open mouth, and he could see a couple of petals stuck in her mouth. He realised she had Hanahaki disease, and he had killed her with his rejection. Sat next to Cupa was Ayano. She looked up at him, and hatred filled her.
"I hate you, Taro. Look what you've done." Ayano shouted sadly through her tears. She hated Taro for rejecting Cupa, his rejection being the thing that killed her.
"I'm so sorry." He murmured sadly. He wished he had known, he wouldn't have rejected her otherwise. Ayano shook her head at him, more tears running from her eyes.
"You did this, Taro. Why did you do this?" Ayano asked through her tears. She wanted to know why Taro had rejected her, even though Cupa would never know. He sighed a little and shrugged his shoulders.
"I don't know. I guess I don't love Cupa like that." He told her casually. He didn't know why, but he couldn't tell Ayano the truth about why he had rejected Cupa. He did love her, but was afraid of commitment. He didn't want any relationship, and told girls he didn't love them when they wanted to be his girlfriend. Now someone had died because of his lies. He had done it. He had killed Cupa.
