Oka Ruto x Shin Higaku:

Oka sat in a tree in a dense forest relaxing. She had her headphones in, not paying any attention to her surroundings. She was lost in thought, drifting into a sleep until she heard a branch break beneath her. She looked down, and saw her best friend Shin climbing up to join her.
"I just had the craziest idea, Oka." He told her as he sat on a branch opposite the one Oka was on. She took out her headphones to look at him. "I want to go on a road trip with you." He told her. She laughed a little, he'd been right when he said it was a crazy idea.
"What made you want to do that?" She asked through her laughter. Shin casually shrugged his shoulders.
"It's something I've always wanted to do, especially since I started learning to drive." A pale tint appeared on Shin's cheeks as he spoke. Oka nodded her head as she began to climb out of the tree.
"Alright. That sounds like fun. I'll go pack some clothes and meet you back here in half an hour." She told him as he also climbed out of the tree. They headed their separate ways to pack their clothes.

They drove down a long stretch of road that went out of the city with Shin at the wheel. They could see the sun setting ahead of them. Shin felt like a knight in shining armour riding off into the sunset with his princess. They had the radio on, and the song 'Demolition Lovers' by MCR was playing. Oka was humming along as he drove along the road.

They eventually stopped in a large car park beside a field. They got out of the van, and opened up the back. Shin had filled it with fluffy blankets and pillows so they could sleep in it while they were traveling. A curtain was put up in the corner of the room so they could change in private, and their cases were attached to the inside of the van behind it. He'd also put up battery powered fairy lights to light it up. She gasped a little.
"Wow. This is impressive, Shin." Oka gasped a little as she got in. He laughed a little, locking the front of the van before getting into the back and locking that as well.
"Heh, thanks." He laughed a little. She gave him a surprise hug, and he blushed a little as he hugged her back. "This is going to be the best time of our lives." He murmured as she broke out of the hug to get changed.

The next day, they continued to drive, eventually arriving at a fairground. They decided to spend the day there in each other's company. He held her hand as he took her on the rides like an overly-excited child. Eventually, he set his heart on riding the biggest rollercoaster.
"Come on!" He pulled Oka over to the ride, even though the idea of the rollercoaster petrified her. He didn't even hear her try to protest. She held on to him tightly throughout the entire ride, especially as it went through the high drops and big loops. "What's wrong?" He asked, noticing how shaky Oka was.
"I got scared by that ride." She murmured, holding him tighter. He felt kinda bad that he'd scared her. They began walking away from the ride towards one of the stalls where you can win cheap prizes.
"I'm sorry. I should've known you wouldn't like that ride." He told her, stopping at one of the stalls. The game involved getting the highest score with 1, 3, or 5 darts depending on what the player paid for. He paid for 3 darts, throwing them at the board. 1 went off while the combined total of the other 2 was 19. He didn't win anything.
"Let me try." She asked him. He paid for another 3 darts, passing them to Oka. Her combined score was 83, winning her a large purple bear. He laughed as they continued walking through the fairground.

The next day, they went to the pier on the beach. They were stood at the edge of it in their swimsuits.
"Let's jump off the pier." Shin suggested. Oka though that was a bad idea, but went with it anyway. He laughed as he jumped first, landing in the cool water and resurfacing a moment later. She watched him, before hesitantly jumping in too. When she didn't immediately float back up to the top, Shin began to panic. After a few moments, she resurfaced, but not how he wanted her to. She was face down into the water and her body appeared almost limp. He turned her over so her head was looking up at the sky before grabbing her hand and swimming back to shore. Once they'd arrived, a lifeguard was called over to try and perform CPR on her.

Shin sat at the top of a tree, staring at the night sky above him. He felt a tear running down his cheek. The lifeguard had been unable to resuscitate Oka, and she'd been pronounced dead as soon as the paramedics arrived. He was consumed with guilt. The cause of death had been drowning, and he felt bad because she wouldn't have drowned if he hadn't suggested jumping from the pier. That had ended his dreams of him and Oka travelling the country in their van, of them falling in love and eloping one day on their road trip.
"I'm sorry." He murmured as he looked at the moon. "I loved you, and I lost you." She'd hidden in the trees, and he just happened to search them. Now he knew he would never find her again.
