149: A Love That Cannot Be

Mai Waifu x Ryusei Koki:

Ryusei remembered the first time he met Mai. He was instantly impressed with her colour changing eyes and her ridiculously long bright pink hair. He had fallen in love with her personality, not just her pretty looks. That's what he told her when he confessed his feelings to her under the cherry blossom tree she loved watching from the school rooftop.

Flashback:

"Mai. I have a confession to make." He told her, the blush on his face evident. She giggled a little bit, holding his hand gently.
"Tell me, what is it?" She asked a little shyly. He blushed harder as he began to feel overwhelmed with emotion.
"I'm in love with you." He confessed. She also began to blush as she held on to his other hand.
"I love you too, Ryusei." She told him, giggling a little. He smiled with relief and kissed her on the lips. She felt her cheeks blush even harder as she had her first kiss.

End of Flashback:

Ryusei smiled as he stood on the rooftop, the place she loved to stand and watch the cherry blossom tree. That was one of his favourite memories. He wished he could go back to that day. He wished he could be with Mai again.

But their love could never be.

She had been betrothed before she had met him to a man living overseas. She didn't know how she felt about it when they were together. She seemed kinda nervous and excited, but sad that she would have to break up with her boyfriend just before their 1 year anniversary. He continued watching the petals, wishing she was stood beside him.
"Why did you have to leave to be with someone else?" He murmured to herself, wanting to ask Mai that question. He still had her number, and he still spoke to her, but it wasn't the same. It wasn't like when she was with him, the best year of his life.

5 years later:

Ryusei was walking through the busy shopping centre when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around and immediately recognised the girl stood behind him with her colour changing eyes. Nothing needed to be said as they embraced each other. They were still just as in love with each other as when they were dating.
"What happened?" Ryusei asked, breaking out of the hug. He could see that she didn't have a wedding ring on her finger, even though she was married the last time she'd spoken to him almost a month ago.
"It didn't work out." She admitted. He didn't say anything as he silently embraced her again. "You you think we could be a couple again?" She asked. He frowned and shook his head as they were both approached by a woman.
"I'm sorry, but I'm engaged now." He admitted as the woman took hold of his hand. Mai sadly realised she was his fiancée. "I hope we can still be friends." He asked. She sighed and nodded her head, before silently walking away. He watched her go, feeling a small pain in his heart. He realised he hadn't gotten over her after all.
