11: To Protect

Megami Saiko x Nemesis-chan:

Megami sat in her club room looking out the window. She knew there was a serial killer loose in her school, and that frustrated her. She hated knowing her school wasn't the safe place it should be. Her thoughts were interrupted by a light tapping at the door.
"Come in." Megami called, looking at the door. The door was pushed open, revealing a girl with short, dark, messy hair, deep red eyes and pale skin. On her hands were a pair of black gloves.
"Miss Saiko." She said coldly, her red eyes meeting Megami's ice blue ones. This girl was unfamiliar to Megami, maybe she was a new student? She nodded her head slowly, trying to maintain her usual posture. Something about this girl didn't seem right.
"Who are you?" Megami asked bluntly but politely. The girl still kept eye contact with Megami.
"My name is confidential, but I'll allow you to call me Nemesis-chan." Megami still felt something was wrong with Nemesis, like she shouldn't be trusted. "I heard you had a problem, so I'm here to help."
"What do you mean by 'help'?" Megami asked, putting emphasis on the word help. She didn't have the best first impression from this girl, and she was never usually wrong when it came to this type of thing. Nemesis shrugged her shoulders.
"I can find out who's killing the students here and eliminate them." She replied, leaning against a table. Megami considered her options. She couldn't let the killer hurt anyone else, but did she really want the killer dead? "So, what do you say?" Megami looked back at the dark haired girl, who had a gloved had outstretched to her.
"I... I guess we have a deal." Megami hesitated, before shaking Nemesis' hand. Her usually emotionless face now had a pleasant smile on it and her red eyes showed emotion for the first time since she had spoken to Megami.
"I look forward to it." Nemesis said, letting Megami's hand go and walking out of the room.

Nemesis headed into the bathroom to be alone for a while. She wasn't a social person. She looked into the mirror, and noticed her cheeks had turned pink. The only person she could think of was Megami.
"Huh." She muttered to herself as she made eye contact with her reflection. "Do I have a crush on my client?" She asked herself, her cheeks turning redder as she thought of Megami. "Didn't think I could fall in love." She splashed her face with cool water before heading out to complete her mission.

She walked around the school in search of any evidence. She didn't have a class to attend, as she wasn't an official student. She was only here to help Megami before she left and went to a different school for a different mission. Walking around, she saw a patch of blood. It appeared as if someone had dragged something bloody across the floor. She followed the path, hoping to find the culprit.

"Did you find anything?" It was the next day, and Megami and Nemesis were in the student council room.
"Yes." Nemesis said, trying to hide her emotions. She had realised she had a crush on the student council president. Luckily for her she was an expert in concealing her emotions. "The killer is Ayano Aishi from class 2-1. She is a Yandere, and her senpai is Taro Yamada from class 3-2. I would like permission to eliminate Aishi-san." Megami sat down silently for a moment. She had a crush on Taro, and she knew she would eventually become a target for Ayano. She had to get rid of her to protect the rest of the students.
"Permission granted."

Nemesis waited for her victim in the storage room. She knew Ayano would head that way soon enough. She gripped the knife in her hand tighter, her mouth breaking in to a smirk for a second. She watched Ayano through a crack in the door until she just passed. She quickly pushed open the door and grabbed on to Ayano's ponytail, pulling her into the room and shutting the door. She pushed Ayano against the wall and held the knife to her neck.
"Give me one reason I shouldn't kill you." Nemesis hissed at Ayano. She rolled her grey eyes and tried to fight off Nemesis, who was like stone.
"I was doing it for love." She snapped back as she felt the knife being pressed against her neck.
"So am I." She said coldly, looking Ayano in her grey eyes and stabbing her in the neck.

"The mission was a success." Nemesis reported back. Megami nodded her head, lost in thought a little.
"Thank you." She said, looking at the dark haired girl in front of her. "What happens to you now?" She asked, a little curiously.
"I don't know. Probably go to another school to do other missions until I'm needed here again." Nemesis said coldly. She didn't understand why she couldn't just tell Megami how she felt. The girl's regal aura made Nemesis feel a little nervous around her.
"I have to go, thank you for your help." Megami headed towards the door of her club room, leaving behind Nemesis.

Megami stood waiting under the cherry blossom tree at the back of the school waiting for Taro to arrive. She had asked him to meet her at that location. She began to fear he wasn't coming, but he arrived.
"Hi Megami." He said smiling. "What do you need?" She said nothing, instead taking out the letter from behind her back and handing it to him. He took it and read it in silence. He also said nothing, instead kissing her on the lips. "I accept your confession." He said, kissing her again.

Watching them from the distance was Nemesis. Her hands balled into fists as she watched Megami and Taro kiss. Scrunched up in her hand was a letter for Megami, Nemesis' love confession. She felt a tear run down her eye as she realised something:

Megami could never love her.
