17: Smells Like Team Spirit

Amai Odayaka x Asu Rito:

"That should be everything." Amai said as she finished counting the cupcakes cooling in the kitchen. She had a small smile on her face even though she was exhausted. She had spent the entire school day in the school cooking club baking for the sports team presentation event.
"Need any help?" Kokona asked as she and the other girls in the club entered the club room.
"Umm... Yeah, please." She said, wiping her hands on her apron, which was lightly coated with flour. "Kokona and Saki, can you make some octo-dogs. Mei and Koharu, can you fan the cupcakes so they cool faster. Yui and Yuna, can you help me make some butter icing to ice the cake, please." She was met with a chorus of "yes Amai." The girls put on their aprons and started their assigned jobs.

Asu loved the feeling of the wind in her face as she sprinted. She was in second place, mere inches away from first.
"Go Asu!" She could hear the screams from the students, but blocked them out. Her only focus was winning. She could see the finish line just ahead of her. One final push was all it took for her to cross the finish line. She was right next to the girl in first she couldn't tell who'd won.
"The winner is... Asu Rito!" The announcer called. An eruption of cheer exploded through the Akademi High students as her name was called. Asu had never felt prouder of herself than at that moment. She didn't collect her award until the celebration event later that day.
"That was close, well done." The girl she's beat said, extending her hand to Asu. She shook it and smiled.
"Well done yourself." She laughed. She would've stayed talking to her competitor, but she was mobbed by students wanting to congratulate her.

"And... I'm done." Amai sighed as she put down the last iced cupcake. The other girls had gone home to get changed ready for the celebration event. She looked down at her clothes and sighed. Her clothes were covered in flour and icing sugar. She took off her apron and sighed. She would have to wear her uniform while everyone other girl looked stunning in their fancy dresses. She picked up the first tray carrying them to the gym for the celebration hoping she wouldn't drop any.

Asu headed to the gym for the celebration event early. She was wearing a pale blue dress and a pair of clean white converse. From the distance she could see someone struggling to carry something. She sprinted over to her.
"Need any help?" Asu asked and waited for a response.
"Yes please." She said. Asu took some of the trays from the girl, and saw it was Amai. "Thanks Asu." She smiled when she saw the person helping her.
"It's nothing." The girls started walking to the gym holding their trays. "Don't you have a dress to wear tonight?" She asked, noticing her school uniform.
"No. I don't have time to change." She admitted. "I don't have a dress, either." She felt a little sad, but she didn't mind too much. Asu began to feel a little bad.
"You can wear mine if you want." Asu offered, looking down at the dress she was wearing. "I don't mind. I have a spare t-shirt and shorts in my bag to wear." Amai looked at her and smiled.
"Only if your sure you don't mind."

Asu's eyes widened when she saw Amai in her dress. They had set up all the food and we're now in the ground floor bathroom. Asu was now wearing a blue t-shirt and grey denim shorts with her converse. Amai was wearing Asu's blue dress with her school shoes.
"Y-you look stunning." Asu said, lost for words. She'd had a crush on Amai for as long as she could remember, but never confessed her feelings because she was scared of being rejected.
"Thanks." Amai blushed as they both headed out of the bathroom to the celebration event.

"Please welcome the winner of the 100m sprint, Asu Rito." The head master said as he stood on the stage. He was met with a round of applause as Asu walked in to the stage and collected her medal and trophy. She was handed a microphone to make a speech.
"I would like to thank everyone who made this possible, especially the prettiest girl here tonight, Amai Odayaka." Amai's face turned red as everyone turned to look at her for a moment before Asu continued. "Amai, thank you for all the times you've brought treats to the track after practise for the team. Thank you for always encouraging me to do better." She took a deep breath as she made a mental decision. "Amai, I am in love with you. Will you be my girlfriend?" Everyone turned to look back at Amai, who had turned red. They began to make a walkway through the crowds of students so she could reach the stage. Asu offered her hand to help her on to the stage, making both girls blush more.
"Yes. I'll be your girlfriend." Amai said into the microphone. The students erupted into cheer for the new couple as they shared their first kiss on the stage.
"Winning the race just became the second best thing to happen to me today." Asu grinned as they ended the kiss, only to kiss her again.
