Chapter Pi

Epsilon awoke to the all too familiar feeling of his entire body shouting in disapproval at his every movement. He felt stiff and tired. He was surprised he was even moving at all. His head felt clouded and it was hard to concentrate on anything for long. He quickly realized he still couldn't go invisible. He lacked the brainpower to concentrate enough to activate the power.

He felt Beta stir and looked down to see her eyes open too. He looked around the room to see Gamma was already awake. The only one still out was Alpha. It took him several minutes longer to regain consciousness. Epsilon looked over with concern.

"The drug takes longer on larger people," the man called Miles said standing up and stretching. He cracked his neck and reached in his pocket for a set of keys. "That's why you and Gamma recovered the fastest," he continued sorting though, his keys trying to find the right one.

"What's that suppose to mean?" Gamma replied in an angry tone, Miles stopped sorting though the keys and looked up in horror, matching the faces of the rest of the group.

"I didn't mean," he started, shuddering.

"I'm not short!" Gamma said, voice rising. "I'm the same size as anyone my age. I am in no way shorter than I am suppose to be." She said very fast. Alpha looked at Miles as if to say 'Are you crazy?" Epsilon slid a hand back and forth in front of his neck, telling him to be quiet.

"I, uh, I wasn't calling you short," Miles begun quickly. "I was calling Epsilon short. You are a perfect size." He said then looked back to the other Titans. Epsilon nodded and Alpha flashed him a thumbs up. Gamma stopped for a second and took a deep breath.

"Phew, I thought you thought I was short," Gamma said chuckling a bit. "But you meant Epsilon. Yeah I could see that. He's a bit of a midget." Everyone gave nervous chuckles to that joke.

Gamma had always been sensitive about her height. No one considered her to be abnormally short. She just got that impression because the only other woman her age she comes in contact with for more than a few seconds is Beta, who is much taller than she is. She has become sensitive to that height ever since.

No one makes fun of her anymore. The first, and last, person to do that instantly regretted it. It was at the beginning of a one-on-one match with Gamma. Her opponent walked out and took one look at Gamma then instantly started cracking up.

"I have to fight this shrimp?" He had said laughing. He stopped laughing again to say something else but whatever it was will forever remain a mystery because at that moment Gamma appeared behind him. With in seconds, she had broken both his legs and fractured an arm. Since then, no one has ever mentioned anything.

Miles, quickly recovered from the incident, finally found the right key and walked over to each of them. He quickly unlocked each of their shackles. They all quickly stood up and started pacing the room, trying to get the movement back in their body.

"Thanks," Alpha said stretching. "But why?"

"Frankly, I don't really trust my father," Miles said unlocking Alpha's

shackle. "He was never really a great person to trust to begin with,

always cloak and dagger with him," he continued, searching for another

key on the ring.

"What is project Phoenix?" Epsilon asked, Miles stopped searching.

After a long minute, He shrugged his shoulders.
