Chapter Alpha

The night was dark. It was one of those nights where not even the light of the moon or the stars could pierce through the dark night sky to provide illumination. The rain beat down heavily, making a small rhythm as it splashed on the already wet concrete below.

All was quiet in the world as Jean Stockwood worked at her desk. The only sound that accompanied the soft tempo of the falling rain was the sound of her fingers clicking away on the keyboard of her computer. She typed with out stopping, determined to get this report done so she could go home for the night. The most of the staff had already left and she was itching to get out of the building. She found it was fairly creepy with out the normal hustle and bustle of the workplace she was use to.

She pressed enter on her keyboard with an enthusiastic flourish, catching a second wind after realizing she was very close to finishing the report. She leaned back in her chair, interlocking her fingers and placing them on her forehead and shutting her eyes. She took a deep breath and then sat back up, cracking her knuckles.

She looked past her computer to the entrance in front of her. She saw several rain streaks dropping down the full windowed door. She cursed and made a mental note to remember to start carrying an umbrella. She turned around and grabbed her cup of coffee she kept on the other side of the desk. She rotated back, facing the door, taking a small swig of the cold coffee. What she saw almost made her choke.

She saw a small girl standing there. She had to be less than five feet. Jean couldn't pin an age on her because her height suggested a young age but her face showed experience gained from age.

Jean had almost missed her entirely. She was dressed all in black, blending in with the dark backdrop behind her. Jean would have missed her completely had she not noticed the large white spot on her forehead, an odd contrast compared to her very dark completion. Even her eyes seemed dark.

She looked around the room, as if confused on why she was there or what she was suppose to do. She finally seemed to notice Jean and walked over to her.

"Hi there," Jean said in a very friendly voice. "What can I do for you?" the girl looked nervous and took a moment before she answered.

"I'm just looking for my father," she finally stammered out. "He's supposed to work here. He said to meet me on the fourteenth floor."

"Oh, alright," Jean replied, not even wondering why a girl this young would be out this late at night. "The elevators are just around that corner." She said pointing down a hallway.

"Thank you," the girl said walking towards the elevators. Jean went back to her report, the girl already long forgotten.

She continued down the hall and pressed the up button on the elevator in front of her. The doors opened automatically and closed a few seconds after Yin stepped in.

She heard a small beep, indicating the elevator ascended a floor and exiled heavily, realized she had fooled the receptionist. Most of the nervousness had been an act, a clever ruse to get past the cameras and front desk. The other bit had been from the realization of what she was planning on doing.

Yin was about to break into the most secure holding facility in the world. She had heard rumors about this place. Such as the man who built the facility died inside because there was no way to get out. She had also heard that the staff who guards on the inside have never seen the light of day since they entered the establishment.

Both and everything else she had heard, she believed. Luckily for her though, the facility specialized in keeping people in. Which means it did a very poor job on keeping people out. Which made Yin's job easier.
