I shift comfortably in my seat.

The lights were a little too bright for my liking, but I was used to it.

Diane Sawyer sat in front of me. I was being interviewed.

“It's nice seeing you again,” she said

“It's nice seeing you again,” she said.

This isn't the first time we've met.

“Same to you.” I smiled.

“So, tell me, how has 2017 been to you?”

I really thought about it.

Last night, Josh and I talked.

“How are you dealing with all this?” he asked, referring to the latest events.

“It's a lot.” I wanted to speak truthfully, so I did. “I don't know how to cope, honestly. Sometimes I feel like I failed as a parent.”

“You're twenty-seven, and I'm twenty-five. We never expected to have such a big family at this age. I never thought I'd have so many responsibilities.”

He went on. “We settled down young. We married young. Yes, it's hard for us, but it isn't impossible.”

He kissed my forehead. “We're in this together. We're not gonna give up because things are hard.”

Josh always knew how to make me feel better.

“I don't even know what's going on in Jason's life,” he admitted. “I've been so caught up with what happened to Maddie, that I hadn't asked him how he's doing. I feel bad. I, too, feel like I've failed in some ways.”

“I never thought of it like that.” I draped an arm over his chest. The kids are sleeping, and this was one of our rare, intimate moments. “What are we gonna do? Things can't keep going on like this.”

“Twenty-five year olds don't usually have to raise seventeen year old twins and a one year old baby. Neither do twenty-seven year olds.” He was talking about us.
