Maddie's P.O.V.

The year so far has been an interesting one.

In January 2014, only a few months ago, Jen invited me to go with her to the Golden Globes, and let's just say that I'll never forget it.

Why is that, you ask?

You see, I saw Ryan Seacrest interviewing Taylor Swift. I squealed in delight because I am a fan of her.

But Jen didn't freak out or fangirl. Instead, she had the intentions of pushing Taylor down the stairs. What the photographers got was another story. I saw the pictures later on, and Jen was all over the news.

She showed a crazy face and I laughed so hard that tears were coming out of my eyes.

Taylor was cool with it though and she actually hugged me. At the moment I told myself that I'd never wash my bare arms again. But I soon realized that that is disgusting. So I took a shower later that night.

Then the Oscars came not too long after. Ellen Degeneres was the host of the show and at one moment, she decided to take a selfie with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Julia Roberts, Jared Leto, Lupita N'Yongo, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper and many others including Jennifer Lawrence were in the photo and the results? They broke the internet. I tried to be in the photo but I couldn't make it. Jared was in the way. At least the pizza was good.

Last year at the Oscars, Jen stepped on the fabric of her long dress and nearly fell in the process. That year, what fans call, “Joshifer,” was confirmed after the two kissed in public for the first time.

This year, Jen sported a new look, and wore a red dress and tripped again, this time over an orange traffic cone and I couldn't help but laugh. She used me and this other lady to keep her from falling.

Oh, and I'll never forget the time when we went to the KCAs in March. Or should I say, when we didn't go. And it was my fault.

It was the day before the KCAs, which stands for Kids Choice Awards. We were watching T.V. and Jen told me I had something in my eye. Embarrassed, I quickly rubbed it away, thinking nothing of it.

But the next day, when I tried to open my eyes, they wouldn't open. For a moment, I thought I was blind.

“Jen!” I shouted. “I can't see!”

I heard her footsteps as she entered my bedroom and I heard her gasp.

“W--what's wrong? Am I blind?”

Then she chuckled. “No, you're not blind.”

Turns out, when you have pink eye (I found this out later), there's this

stuff--I don't know what you call it, maybe drainage--that basically glues your eyes shut. My naïve self thought I was blind.

“I'll be right back,” she told me.

Minutes later I felt her dabbing my eyes with a moist washcloth. She was cleaning the gunk out.

“I looked up your symptoms, and I think you have pink eye.”

“What about the KCAs?” I asked. “You might win an award, you have to go!”

She didn't answer at first. “If you have pink eye, I have to stay here. I won't be able to go. You are far more important than an award, Maddie.”

I smiled as she continued to dab at my eyes.

“But still, I feel bad. It's my fault that you can't go.”

“Don't worry about it,” she said. “If I win anything, they'll send the award to me. . . Or Josh can receive it. It doesn't matter. My number one priority is you.”

By then I was able to see again, but my eyes itched like crazy.

“The website says not to scratch it, that's the worst thing you could do.”

“Ugh!” I groan in frustration. If I could, I'd claw at my eyes until this unbearable itch would go away.

Later that day, I was taken to a clinic and was examined. I, indeed, had pink eye and was given a prescription for special eye drops.

I took a few photos of myself, to get a better look at my eyes. And they were very pink.

Did I mention that pink eye is contagious?

I spent that day in my room, watching the KCAs and Jen would visit me every so often and put a few drops of the medicine into my eyes.

Catching Fire won best movie.

I never cheered so much.
