Broken Things Heal or Die(Chen)

Written by SandraHaegeman

"Chen!" She said.

"Yes, my love?" I answered.

She blushed. "I have to tell you something very important..."

"Okay, I'm listening... What is it?" She wasn't making eye contact with me at all. "Hey, you can tell me anything..."

She seemed to be thinking for a second. "I love you." She smiled.

I was shocked. I love her too, but that's the first time in the two years we've been dating that she has said it. "I love you too, Babe." I hugged her.

"I got to go... I'm late for... Uh.... Something..." She left.

That didn't sound like cheating.... (Note the sarcasm)

I pull up to her house. She should be home....

I ring the doorbell.

"Oh, hi Chen..." Her mom answered. "Honey! Chen's here!" She yelled. "Come on in..."

I enter the house and sit in the armchair in the living room, waiting for her to come down.

"Hello, Chen." She smiled. "I would love to hang out today, but I have a doctor's appointment..." She said.

"I'll come with..." I didn't get to finish my sentence.

"No, I'm fine. You don't need to go."

"Please, I want to come." I insisted. "What's it for anyway?"

"Girl stuff." She said quickly.

"I'm not good with that, and you'll probably feel weird with me in the room with you... But I want to go."

"No, Chen." She finalized.

"Hello, Chen." She came up behind me.

"Hello..." I said.

"I want.... No, I need to tell you something, Chen." She said.

"You're cheating." I assumed as I turned to look at her.

"No! How could you think that, Chen!" She yelled.

"Fine. What were you saying?"

"I..." Wind caught her words so I couldn't hear them.

"I didn't hear you."

"Chen, I've had cancer for the past two months now..." She said. That left me shocked. I thought she was cheating! I would definitely take cheating over my girlfriend dying...

"How long do you have?" I asked subconsciously.

"A couple weeks... They caught it at stage three... They thought they could catch it, but all the chemo was taking its toll, I was always tired. My time with the doctors increased. I became weaker. Most of all... hiding it from the person I love the most..."

"Why did you hide it from me?" I asked.

"Cause... I thought you would leave me...." She said sadly.

"I would never leave you, Babe." I hugged her. I didn't notice I was crying until she wiped the tears from my cheeks.

"I have to go, this is my last kemo..." She said.

"You're giving up?!" I held onto her tighter.

"Chen.... Broken things heal or die. I love yo..." She fainted then.

"No, no no no no! Don't go." I cried as I ran to my car.

I drove to the hospital. "Sir?" A lady said.

"Help her!

Hours.... I've been waiting for hours... The doctors or nurses haven't shown their faces yet, and I'm doubting they ever will...

Her parents came thirty minutes after I called them.

The doctor came in. "I'm terribly sorry for your loss... I tried everything I could..." He then left the room.

I fell to the ground. She's gone...

_____*_____ONE YEAR LATER_____*_____

I drive with my friend in the passenger seat. Xiumin needs to know this part in my past...

"Chen, you don't have to do this..." He said as I pulled into the cemetery.

"But I want to do it..." I smiled at him.

We got out and I look for the headstone that has her name on it. As we came upon the row that has her in it, Xuimin grabs my hand. "I'm here, bro." He smiled at me.

We walk until I see her name... "My one true love..." I say as I stop in front of her stone.

I lay flowers down. I haven't been here since her funeral...

On her headstone, the words under her name were written; 'God wanted an angel, he wanted a beautiful one.' It had an engraving of her face, but that did her no justice... Though it was pretty, it wasn't as beautiful as the real deal.

Xiumin put an arm around my shoulders without a word and I hugged him as I cried.
