Two weeks later
My knee bounced as I chewed on my thumb nail, watching her watch me back silently. It was kinda weird but I had a feeling this is how she wanted me to feel. Though her job was to make me comfortable with her, I wasn't with whatever she was doing.
"Tell me about your dad." I titled my head in confusion as she crossed one leg over the other. "What kind of man was he?"
"He was good, kind. Maybe a little idealistic but he meant well." She didn't respond. "Um, what else can I say? He was my best friend."
"Was he an angry person?" She pried.
I shook my head quickly. "Not at all. That was his brother, Joey. He got the same traits as my grandfather while my dad got more of my grandmoth-"
"I asked about your father, not extended family." My eyes squinted as she shifted in her spot. "Tell me about your father."
"I just did!" I hissed out, looking down at my lap as I took in a slow breath. "What do you want me to know about him?"
"What do you want me to know about him?" She retorted.
"Nothing, actually. You're starting to get on my nerves." She clicked her pen and I quickly sat up, my hands raising. "I'm sorry, okay I- I'm just dealing with a lot and taking it out on you. Please don't add another month or whatever."
She looked at me softly before setting the pen down. "That's a step up. Admitting you're not angry with the situation at hand."
Sighing, I rested back into the cushioned chair with a nod. "Thank you."
After another thirty minutes of the session, she was walking me out of the building again but we were actually having an... important conversation.
"Why are you asking me this?" She questioned.
I crossed my arms and shrugged, looking away from her. "Just hypothetical." My gaze caught the parking lot and I saw a prominent Mercedes parked besides my car.
"Well, it is possible yes. You would have to let your probation officer know and there may be a waiting period but.. you or hypothetically you could get the transfer." I looked back at Camden and nodded with a smile. "You're not thinking about doing anything crazy, right?"
"My whole life is crazy." Sighing, I started down the steps. "This may be the one thing to bring it to peace."
I pulled out my car keys just as she stepped out, clad in her scrubs. "Hey." She mumbled.
Unlocking my door, I smiled softly. "Hi Steph."
"Can we uh, can we talk about-"
"No need." I stopped with my hand raised. "I think we should take some time- Steph." I sighed out when she wrapped her arms around me, her head burying into my chest.
"I can't lose you again." She breathed out, tightening her grip on the back of my sweatshirt.
Smiling softly, I hugged her back before pressing a soft kiss to her head. "You aren't." I whispered before pushing her back softly. She looked at me with teary eyes as I opened my car door and reached in, grabbing an envelope from the glove compartment. "Here."
She slowly took the square envelope, reading the cover. "June third, what does that mean?"
"That's when you'll open it." I leaned back against my car as I scanned my eyes over her. "Stephanie, I love you, you know that." She met my eyes again. "But sometimes love isn't enough. I need to spend some time focusing and rebuilding myself. I hope you understand."
