I put the last few things in my case, I had been looking forward to this trip as it was a break from the norm. But I didn't want to go, I was leaving something behind, leaving her. I now had someone to come back to. I had started to shut myself off from having feelings for anyone again since her. Being married to her was toxic, I'd done the right thing and it had been thrown back into my face. All that I had wanted she mocked and tore apart. My chance to put right the hurts from the past wasted on her.

Lisa was troubled too. She tried to hide it but there were things she was holding back from me. The few moments we had got close, it was there a resistance, what was that. I hope it wasn't me. But if it was she would surely have told me to bugger off by now I had been quite persistent. I'm scared I'll frighten her away if I push it. Was it so awful to want what I did. The others had found it, why did it go so wrong for me. My dear Ex wife had told me in the past that I was needy, clingy, a control freak but it wasn't like that. I just wanted to love, be loved. Maybe if I try telling her. My phone rings...............is it her

"Hello...........oh hey Davy what's up" I say

"Benny just ringing to say I'm on my way mate, be there in five" he tells me

"Yeah ok"

"You ok mate you sound fed up" he asks, it must sound in my voice

"It's nothing mate" I tell him

"Hmmm yeah right, look I'll be there in a bit and you can tell me then, won't be long" and before I know it he's put the phone down. I close my case putting a lock on it and checking my luggage label. I take it to the door and put my coat on. My phone is going again, it must be Davy to say he's here. It's stuck in my jeans pocket "shit, come on" I say out loud trying to get it. I rush to answer it

"Davy, I'll be down now" I tell him

"Ben, Hi it's me" its her

"Lisa" I say my heart pounding at the sound of her voice

"I just wanted to catch you before you left, just to say safe trip" she says making me smile

"Oh sweetheart" I say to her "That's sweet of you, I'm just about to leave for Dover" I tell her

"Will you let me know when you get there" she asks suddenly her tone is softer

"Of course I will" I reassure her. I hear the sound of a car horn from outside, it's Davy. I go to the window hes parked outside. I give him a wave so he know's I've seen him. "I'll be thinking about you" I tell her

"Same" she says

"Don't miss me too much" I tease and she laughs

"Hmm I can't promise you that" she says

"Baby" I whisper, Davy beeps the horn again "Shit, my lifts here" I tell her

"Go Ben, don't keep them waiting" she says as I go and pick up my things from the hallway

"I'll call you" I say locking the door behind me

"Bye" she whispers

"Bye baby" I say and she hangs up. I chuck my stuff in Davy's boot which hes left open and I climb into the passenger seat

"Alright Benny Boy" he asks

"It is now" I tell him and he just grins at me as he drives off.

I hold my phone to my chest as I end the call. lost in my own thoughts. This was going to be a long week. I was envious of his students, they got to be with him and I didn't. I wanted to know about him, curious, what had happened before. Maybe he was like me.
