Killian's Pov

Five Weeks Ago In The Enchanted Forest

"This is your castle?" Henry sounds disappointed.

"Well it was before the first curse. It seems to have just weathered down to ruble since then," David sighs, as we all stare up at the castle ruins, "Well we better get looking if we are going to get out of here by nightfall."

I notice David's somber mood.

"Henry, why don't you see if you can find where the nursery is located and maybe find a sword that you can take home as a souvenir," I smirk.

"Cool," Henry runs off into the decaying castle

"You okay, mate?" I ask David.

"Yeah," he sighs again, "I haven't been back here since the first curse. Where Emma was taken away from us. We were supposed to raise her here. She was going to have the life of a princess, not the life of a savior. She has gone through so much and for what, to break a curse. I sometimes wonder if it was worth it, leaving our only child to face a life of loneliness with not a single soul to love her."

"But she's happy now," I reassure David, "She's not lonely and she has plenty of people to care for her."

"But at what cost? Emma had to face 28 years of pain," David runs his hand through his hair.

"Mate. That was a long time ago," I grip his shoulder.

"But what if it wasn't enough to ensure her a happy ending. You have seen what her savior life is like. She doesn't get a break. She is always fighting for hers and everyone else's happiness. She never has time to live that life, the life that everyone else gets to live."

"Dave," I say sternly, "You can't change what is done. Emma is happy and maybe she fights for her happiness everyday, but shouldn't that be what true love is. It isn't just one valued moment or one shared kiss to create true love. It's the rough times you go through that makes the love tougher than the rest. You can only have the good with the bad. I for one would rather take the worst day I could think of for one day with Emma. That's what true love is and true love isn't a happy ending. Hell, it's not even a happy beginning. You told me yourself, it's taking the most of each day. Emma is perfectly okay. You did the right thing with her and you're the reason she's who she is today. Emma needed to conquer the bad for the good. And now she can be happy, even if it's not what was expected to happen."

"Thanks Killian. I just wish I had more time with Emma. I missed everything," his smile slumps.

"You haven't missed everything. Sure you missed the growing up, but you're going to be there when Emma gives birth to our child and you're going to help her every step along the way because both of us know we are going to need the help," I chuckle.

"I guess I should be making the most of my time with Emma, rather than focusing on what I have missed," David smiles at me.

"There's the spirit," I pat him on the back.

"Now how about we do what we came here for and find that crib," David pats me back.

We head into the castle, rummaging through the fallen castle.

"Hey gramps, look what I found," Henry calls, holding up a rusted sword, slashing it through the air.

"Woah, kid, be careful with that. I think that's a perfect way to get tetanus," David holds out his hands to defend himself.

"Killian," a voice like Emma's calls. I ignore it thinking I just imagined it.

"I tell you what I'll help you find a better one. I think the armory is over here somewhere," David takes the sword out of Henry's hand.
