You grabbed the bento that your foster parents had kindly prepared for you and walked towards your brother.
"Hey, Maki-nii! Wanna eat lunch together?" You asked with a smile and a sing-song voice.
Maki was talking with one of your suspects— Toshiyuki, the softball athlete. When he heard you, he quickly turned and faced you.
"Ah, sorry Shin," he said with a straight voice. "I wanted to eat lunch with Iwata so we could discuss about me joining the softball team."
You tilted your head to the side as you said, "Huh?"
You acted surprised but in reality, you already knew that it was gonna happen. After all, you had planned it to go that way with Maki days ago.
He was going to investigate two of the suspects— the softball athlete and the class representative. As for you, you will try to see whether or not the remaining suspects could be the one you're looking for. Because of the uneven number of suspects, you had to deal with one more suspect compared to Maki— the blond guy who had tired eyes, the red hair who was all smiley towards you, and the prime suspect.
"Is that so?" You said. "Okay then! I'll just look to eat somewhere else!"
With that, you started walking away. Your eyes scanned the whole room as you looked for a specific person.
"Oh, [Last Name]! You don't have anyone to eat with?"
You turned your head and looked at Orochi and smiled at him. Because of his approachable and friendly nature, investigating him wouldn't be that hard so getting close to him wasn't going to be hard.
"Sadly," You said with a smile. "My brother seemed to have made friends with Iwata already."
"If you want, we can eat lunch together," Orochi offered.
"Ah, that's a good offer, Takayama," You said, before doing a quick glance to the side as you spotted a flash of orange pass by. "But, I kind of have something else to do for now."
"Oh. Okay!" Orochi said, pouting at first before smiling widely again.
"Next time then?" You said.
"Sure!" he said.
You nodded at Orochi, sparing a glance at Sakiko— the person who would probably be the hardest to get close to from all of the suspects— before jogging to the door and catching up to the person you were looking for. Hinata Shouyou.
'Okuda Sakiko. I'll think about approaching you later. For now, my main goal is to get closer to Hinata Shouyou.'
As you got closer, you slowed down your pace.
"Hi!" You said with a smile.
"You... You're shorter than me," he mumbled.
"What?"
That wasn't the reaction you were expecting. At all.
"Ah! I'm sorry! Are you talking to me?" Shouyou asked with his head tilted to the side.
"Yeah! I'm one of the new students. I was kinda wondering if you'd help me get around?"
You knew that it was weird enough that you were approaching him out of all people. It was more reasonable to ask Kazuhiko since he was the class representative. But you needed to start moving because you didn't know how long you and Maki had left before the actual person could accomplish his goal.
Besides, it's a trap you made that would help you determine whether or not he was aware of the situation he was in. You were observant. And a simple change in expression was something you'd immediately notice.
