"Maki-nii!" You shouted as you run towards Maki.

"Shin," the black-haired boy said, calling you by your fake name. "Let's go."

"Okay~," You replied, throwing ur bag over shoulder— the strap hanging from your fingertips.

You and Maki had been partnered up in a lot of missions even before this. Because of that, you two had formed a sense of understanding where you could see what the other was saying without explicitly saying the needed words.

"So, how was club?" You asked. In truth, you were asking whether or not he was able to notice something that connected Toshiyuki and the mission.

"It was normal, I guess," Maki said, shrugging. Translated, he meant that he didn't notice anything.

"Same," You replied, telling him that nothing happened as well with Shouyou during club time.

"Nothing exciting?" Maki asked— mainly to keep the conversation sound normal.

"Well, I got to be a libero. That's exciting I guess," You said, smiling at Maki.

"How about your teammates?" the black-haired boy asked. In short, he was asking whether or not someone could look like they were helping Shouyou with the development of the program,

"What can I say?" You said, scratching the back of your head. "They're okay, I guess."

"I see," Maki said, nodding.

With that, you stopped talking about the mission and continued walking to your foster home in silence.

"Tadaima," said the both of you as soon as you stepped inside.

"Okaerinasai," someone said.

You and Maki walked inside and headed to the kitchen where your foster mother was— only an assumption made from the volume and direction her voice came from.

Once you two reached the kitchen, you saw her back against you and Maki as she sliced some of the onions she brought out.

Your foster mother was a woman in her late thirties. Her name was [Last Name] Maeko, a woman with straight long brown hair and light green eyes that reminded you of the young leaves found on trees.

"How was the first day?" Maeko asked, sensing that the two of you were in the kitchen despite making no sound at all, even when both of you walked.

Another thing about Maeko, she was an ex-agent from the agency you two were in. Not only her though. Her husband, [Last Name] Hayato is also an ex-agent. The two were partners as well but because of an accident in a mission, Maeko ended up getting injured. After that, she was relieved of her duties.

As for Hayato, when he and Maeko decided to settle down, the agency let him stop working as an agent under two conditions: (1) he didn't speak about ever being an agent and (2) they will remain in contact with the agency in case a request is needed by the agency.

That's how the [Last Name]s ended up being the foster home for the two agents, you and Maki— or his true title, Agent 352 or Three.

"No report-worthy progress," Maki said, taking a seat on the dining table set.

"As expected," You added, taking a seat as well.

"Yeah," Maeko said, turning around to face you two. "Anyway, what do you want to eat?"

"I'm okay with anything, Maeko-san," You said, smiling at the woman. You didn't want to be a bother to her at all, especially with how caring she was.
