Lady Catelyn Stark had called Rhaella, Robb, Theon, Maester Luwin and Ser Rodrik Cassel to the Godswood in Winterfell, so there they stood. Rhaella was confused, she couldn't imagine what Lady Stark would want with all of them.
"What I am about to tell you must remain between us" she said and looked at all of them. "I don't think Bran fell from that tower. I think he was thrown" when the older woman said that everyone looked at each other with a shocked face.
Maester Luwin turned to Ser Rodrik and said "the boy was always sure-footed before."
Lady Catelyn looked at all of them and said "someone tried to kill him twice. Why? Why murder an innocent child? Unless he saw something he wasn't meant to see"
"Saw what, my lady?" Theon asked confused, and Rhaella shared his confusion, what could Bran have seen that led someone to do this to him.
"That's what I want to know! For goodness sake, he's ten! You must be doing something really bad if you're willing to murder an innocent child just to cover it up!" Ser Rodrik said, getting angry.
"I don't know. But I would stake my life the Lannisters are involved. We already have reason to suspect their loyalty to the crown" Lady Stark said.
"I don't doubt it, the Lannisters would do anything to keep their name clean" Rhaella said with a sour face, she hated all the Lannisters.
"Did you notice the dagger the killer used? It's too fine a weapon for such a man" Ser Rodrik said unsheathing the knife. "The blade is Valyrian steel, the handle dragonbone. Someone gave it to him" he continued, showing them the knife.
"They come into our home and try to murder my brother? If it's war they want..." Robb started saying but was interrupted by Theon.
"If it comes to that, you know I'll stand behind you" the young Greyjoy said.
Maester Luwin turned to the two boys, "what, is there going to be a battle in the Godswood? Huh? Too easily words of war become acts of war." He turned to Lady Catelyn and said " we don't know the truth yet. Lord Stark must be told of this"
"I'll ride to King's Landing," Robb offered.
"No. There must always be a Stark in Winterfell" Lady Stark said. "I will go myself," she told the group.
"Mother, you can't," the older Stark boy told his mother.
"I must" she told her son.
"I'll send Hal with a squad of guardsmen to escort you," Ser Rodrik told Lady Stark.
Lady Stark shook her head and said "too large a party attracts unwanted attention. I don't want the Lannisters to know I'm coming."
"She is right," Rhaella told the men. "They will know something is wrong if Lady Stark arrives there with an arm."
