The Ghost Crew One-shots

Insecurities part 9

IN THE MED-BAY....

The crew was so happy to see Ezra alive and awake. Everyone felt relieved because they knew that they hadn't lost their youngest crew member. The doctor pulled Hera aside to quickly give her a run down of how the boy was. Meanwhile the rest stayed by Ezra's bed...

"How are you feeling ?" Kanan asked gently, looking at his Padawan. Ezra again seemed to open his mouth a little as an instinct to talk but no sound was heard. He took a tablet that was laying next to him. The doctor gave it to him and explained it's use. Untill He learns sign language, he will communciate through writing.

Ezra took the tablet in his lap and wrote something by typing, after just a few seconds he showed it to the rest. On the tablet it said "A little overwhelmed but I'm alright."

Kanan gave a soft but clearly saddened smile. This was truely how Ezra was going to communicate with them for some time.  "Did they tell you when you can leave the med-bay and come back to the Ghost ?" Zeb asked suprsingly also very gently.

Ezra looked down at the tablet and after a few moments showed his writing "In about a week I'm allowed to go back to the ghost but I'll need some rehabilitation for my leg" He then took it back, erasing the previous writing and then wrote "So i'll probably be released with crutches"

"I see" Kanan said simply, looking away a bit with a very obvious sad look and Ezra clearly noticed. The older Jedi was quite upset so that made his Padawan also look down a bit. He hadnt even seen, much less talked to Kanan ever since he was rescued and Ezra didnt really leave on good terms with his Master. Sabine noticed the atmopshere between the two so she turned to Ezra and said "Hey Ez, I'll be teaching you sign language. Dont wanna brag but I'm pretty good at it !"

Ezra seemed a bit surpised but smiled softly as he typed on his tablet "Really ?"

"Yeah ! I volunteered for it myself. And dont worry it isnt as hard as it looks, we'll take it slow and in no time you'll know it. Plus It will be a lot easier for you to communicate that way" Sabine said and Zeb agreed saying "We even learned to sign a bit ourselves so we can understand what you're saying"

Ezra was silent for a bit as he looked down, that worried Sabine and Zeb a bit though. Did they say something wrong ?

Then Ezra started writing on his tablet for a few second and then showed it to them. It simply said "Thank you" but clearly behind it were so many emotions. Zeb and Sabine smiled gently as Kanan got a glimpse of the situation, smiling himself too. Suddenly Ezra started writing something down again and after it said "How did the mission turn out ? Is everyone alright ?"

"Oh Dont worry Ezra. Everyone is safe and sound and the new weapon was completely destroyed. No traces were left of it.." Kanan answered the younger boy as his face clearly showed relief. He then wrote on his tablet "I'm glad to hear that".

Then, Hera and the doctor walked up to the boy's bed and joined the rest. "I talked it over with Captain Syndulla and we have decided to extend your stay for 2 weeks instead of 1." The doctor said calmly as the crew looked towards him.

"Another week...?" Ezra thought as he took his tablet and started writing on it.

Kanan was clearly about to start asking questions but before he could Ezra turned over his tablet with a simple "Why ?" written on it. The doctor sighed "We have found that your neck injury that caused your mutism might need some extra time healing"

Ezra paused for a second, he didnt want to stay too long in the med-bay. Especially since he woke up but he figured there was no other choice...he didnt really have the energy to protest right now.

"Dont worry though Ezra !"Sabine said all the sudden "I'll come by every day to give you sign language lessons and to hang out alright ?"

"Yeah and we'll all come pay you visits so dont worry" Kanan spoke suddenly as Ezra turned to him. He then wrote something on his tablet and when he turned it to the people in front of him it said "Thank you all so much for everything". 

The crew and the doctor smiled at the boy's words. Though Ezra was being unusually off and calm even when he found out such shocking news . But the fact he was being so calm and completely off about it was a sign he was dealing with it still, he wasnt the sarcastic energetic Ezra they knew at the given time.  After a bit of talking and Sabine teaching Ezra how to sign "My name is Ezra" the boy got really calm but in a negative way. He then pointed at Kanan and started writing down something on his tablet. Under a few seconds he turned the object around and it said "May I talk to Kanan alone for a bit ?"

The crew and the doctor understood, nodding their heads and going out of the med-bay. They wanted to bring in some food for Ezra anyway.

Finally when the Master and Padawan were left alone in the room, Kanan sat on the chair beside Ezra's bed. The smaller boy was avoiding eye contact as he wrote something on his tablet....

"I'm sorry" The tablet showed...

Kanan paused for a second looking at the object and then back at Ezra. Immedietly the older Jedi said "No Ezra...I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for everything I shouldnt have ever said the things I said. I am so happy to have met you and taken you as my Padawan. All the fighting was my fault, I'm the one that crossed the line first"

Ezra was completely taken a back by the man's response. He looked at Kanan with such wonder filled, glosssy eyes that the older man himself was suprised at the boy's expression. It seemed tho since Ezra became mute, his eyes were the ones speaking the truth.

The Padawan then started writing on his tablet again, this time it took him quite a while to finnish but when he was done he turned it to Kanan and it said "I'm still the one who enforced and continued the fighting Kanan. It's not all on you, its on me too. I'm really sorry and I'm sorry for making you worried."

"Of course I would be worried, I care about you Ezra. We all do. It was only natural that we were worried when we got the information about what happened" Kanan said but as soon as he finnished his sentance Ezra seemed to just stare at him with wide eyes....but then...he smiled softly as his eyes teared a bit. He wrote on his tablet "I care about all of you as well, and I appriciate all the support you are giving me"

"Of course Padawan, we are going to get through this." The Master said gently. Then a spark lit in his eyes as he looked back at Ezra "...Ezra...what exactly happened back at the Imperial ship ?"

The younger boy seemed to stop for a second, almost as if trying to remember and after just a few moments his expression darkened and he started typing on his tablet. A few minutes passed before Ezra revealed his writing to Kanan and when he did...it disturbed the older Jedi to the core....
