A boy named Ezra part 7

THE NEXT DAY IN THE COMMON ROOM....

Early birds as they are, Kanan and Hera were already awake waiting for the others to come. They were talking but then a thought struck Hera "Um Kanan.....I just remembered"

"Remembered what ?" Kanan asked turning his head towards the Twi'lek. "We didn't interduce Ezra to Commander Sato yet". Kanan then also realised that they really did forget even though Commander Sato directly told them to report new crew members immedietly.

"Ugh,how could we forget that?"Kanan said a little frustrated. " I guess we were kinda too excited because of Ezra"Hera chuckeled and Kanan too "I guess..we should head to the rebel base today" Hera nodded in agreement. Then the door opened revealing Zeb and Sabine. The two muttered "Good morning"

"Good morning you two, up early I see"Hera said looking at them knowing they were still half asleep. "Is Ezra awake?" Kanan asked, not seeing the small boy behind them. "I don't think so" Zeb answered. "That's strange,Ezra usually wakes up early...."Kanan thought

"I'll go check on him"Kanan got up and went to his cabin where Ezra slept.

IN KANAN'S CABIN...

The door opened revealing the small figure of a boy still laying on the lower bunk. Kanan smiled but his smile suddenly faded when he noticed Ezra trembling and shaking. He was also laying curled up. Kanan quickly came to his side, feeling the heat radiating from Ezra's body. He put his hand on the kid's forehead. He was burning up as Kanan grabbed his com link in a hurry "Hera ! Come in my cabin quick!". Kanan heard loud running footsteps approaching the Jedi's cabin. There were more than two. Hera came in gasping for breath and quickly walked over to the fragile boy. Behind her stood Sabine and Zeb, clearly worried. Hera put her hand on Ezra's forehead and felt extreme concern "He's temperature is dangerously high" as she turned to Kanan "Take him to the med-bay, Sabine,get some water and Zeb.....keep an eye on Kanan"

"What?!, Why would Zeb keep an eye on me?" Kanan asked, himself also panicking 

"Becasue I see you are panicking and you know what happened last time you were panicking!"Hera said in one breath. Kanan stopped for a second but nodded in a hurry. He picked up Ezra gently and hurried him into the med-bay. The rest of the crew followed behind.

IN THE MED-BAY.....

Kanan carefully set Ezra on the med-bay bed as Hera hurried over to the cabinet with medicine, looking for a thermometer. With all the commosion Ezra started to wake up "K-Kanan?". Hearing the quiet familiar fragile voice Kanan turnd around quickly seeing Ezra looking up at him.

"Yeah,Yeah, i'm here"Kanan said trying his best to hide the panic. "I f-feel so cold.."Ezra muttered flinching at any movement in the room. "Don't worry,you'll be okay"Kanan said in a gentle voice, providing support for the younger boy. Hera came up to the two with a thermometer in her hand "Ezra sweetie, when need to see your temperature" Ezra opened his mouth and Hera placed the thermometer in his mouth so that the temperature could read.

"Did you eat or drink something bad yesterday or the day before?"Kanan asked

"I-I think not"Ezra said . "Hey guys......"Sabine said in a worried tone while holding her datapad "I might know why is Ezra sick...". The crew turned around facing at Sabine.

"There is an illness on Lothal called Lothisis, It's really common,  it's a illness that children age between 6-18 get every year!"Sabine said reading the text on her datatpad  "There is no cure ..but it appears and disappears after 1 week so Ezra probably has it now and it will pass after 1 week by itself ? All children with age gain the immunity to the disease, thats way kids can only get it if they are under 18"

"You scared me when you said there is no cure"Kanan sighed

"Sorry that's what it says here, it comes and passes, there is no need for a cure, only some medicine can ease the symptoms for that week"Sabine said. "What are the symptons?"Kanan continued.

"Well extreme mood swings, high temperature and constant feeling of cold, in some cases uncontrollable defense,that defense system mostly occurs in...force-sensetive children.."Sabine answered slowing down on the last part

"So that means...if we do something unusual Ezra will react immedietly?"Zeb asked as Sabine nodded.

"Then, we just have to be careful about what we are doing"Kanan was saying as the thermometer made a noise. Hera took it from Ezra's mouth and checked the temperature, 107 degrees. She immeditely jumped up and went to look for medicine not telling the rest of the crew about Ezra's temperature.

"Hera,what did the thermometer say?!"Kanan asked immedietly "107 degrees....."Hera quickly responded to him as she was gathering some pils. Even more worry was now in Kanan's mind. He didnt want Ezra to be hurting in any way. "

"Kanan get me that medicine!"Hera said while slowly starting to panic herself. She pointed at the shelf on the other side of the room. Kanan immedietly got up and took the medicine standing on the shelf and gave it to Hera that was already kneeling next to Ezra.

"Okay Ezra, can you drink this?"Hera asked while holding a glass of water and about 3-4 pills including the ones Kanan gave her. "Um..O-okay"Ezra said started drinking the pills, soon he was done. "I need you to lay down and rest no getting up, you can faint"Hera said

"Yeah I-I know, its not a big deal so p-please dont worry"Ezra said looking away but focuing his attention on Kanan when he spoke"You know?". Ezra sighed  "This is not the first time I have Lothisis, it started when I was about 2, my um...parents took me to see the doctor and the doctor said that this is not normal for a 2 year old boy to get it since its only supposed to appear after the age of 6. My parents were really worried but....After m-my......my 6th  birthday I got it again like every year but this time I had no one t-to care for me so I took care of m-myself, I didn't really have any m-medicine, it's expensive on Lothal and not that easy to steal. Without the medicine my temperature went up drastically but I survived it and everything was fine afterwards ! But some stuff started to happen while I was sick and getting food outside. Bucket heads started to listen to me and repeat the things I say and leave me alone when I get in trouble  and um.... when I'm nervous, sad or angry stuff start floating around me"Ezra said

"Hmm.. that started happening after you were 6 years old....thats unusual....force-sensetive people only start noticing that type of disturbance and enviroment control after they are 13-14"Kanan said scratching his beard, thinking. "Ezra,how are you feeling now?"Hera asked

"I still feel kinda cold but I feel a bit better, t-thanks !"Ezra smiled. This was gonna be one hell of a week
