WARNING: Death

He thought she'd always be there. He thought he'd always be able to see her smiling face. What a cruel lesson he learned.

You were so excited. You had made plans for today months in advance with Yamato. You and Yamato were going out on a date to celebrate your first dating anniversary. And you couldn't wait. You had spent the last week picking out an outfit. You had checked over everything to make sure it was just right. But, there was one thing you didn't check.

"What?" You asked, not believing the words you were hearing. "What do you mean 'what'? You asked me what we were going to do tomorrow and I said I had a fighting competition tomorrow." He replied. "Did you-" You stopped yourself. You knew how much he valued his fighting competitions. It had just slipped his mind. Nothing good would come from being upset at him. "I'll make sure to come to cheer you on." You said with the best smile you could muster. "On such short notice?" He asked. "I don't want to miss seeing you." You said. "Alright, I'll text you the information." He said. "I guess I'll leave you to any last-minute preparations you have." You turned to walk away when he grabbed your arm. "Hey, are you okay? You seem a little down." He asked. You turned back towards him. "Thanks for worrying about me, but there's nothing wrong. Now instead fill your head with the competition tomorrow. Goodbye, I love you, Yamato." You said with a smile. His face went slightly red. "Yeah, bye. I love you too." Then you walked off.

~15 minutes later~

You had just returned home. You let out a sigh and dropped the fake smile you had kept the whole way home. You heard your phone ding. You turned on your phone and looked at the notification. It was the text from Yamato containing the information for tomorrow. You smacked your face a few times to shake off the sadness. You put on a big smile. "I told Yamato I would go and cheer him on tomorrow so that's what I'll do. Being sad now will just waste time." You said to yourself. You quickly looked over the information and sorted out what you will do tomorrow. After you finished preparing, you climbed in bed and drifted off to sleep.

Yamato's POV

I laid in bed thinking about Y/N. I know I need to go to bed, but I just couldn't shake the feeling. She seemed like something was bothering her, but I couldn't think of what. Did something happen with her family? Or is it simple? I remembered her words, "Now instead fill your head with the competition tomorrow." That's right, I should be focused on the competition. I'll ask her about it tomorrow after I win. After all, the competition is only tomorrow but she'll always be there.

~The Next Day~

Your POV

You woke up confused since you didn't hear your alarm. You looked over at your phone. It was noon. The competition started at 11:00 am and you were planning on leaving at 9:00 am. You're late! You rushed to get ready, throwing on the first clothes you could find. You then rushed out the door.

You sprinted down the street. You had to make it before the competition was over! You had told Yamato! You stopped immediately. Told. Just like Yamato had made plans with you. Why should you be in such a hurry? What's making you uphold your word when he doesn't? Why should you care? You crouched down and put your hands over your head. No. You didn't like these thoughts. It had just slipped his mind. He didn't forget on purpose. There's nothing to gain in being mad at him. It was just an accident. And you were going to forgive him. You loved him after all.

You heard a distant dinging sound. "Move out of the way!!!" You heard someone yell. You looked up. Your eyes were met with a big black object. And then it hit you.

Yamato's POV

The stadium had just finished clearing out. I had won the competition, but she wasn't here to see. Maybe something urgent popped up? I pulled out my phone and dialed her number. I waited as it ringed. "Hi, this is Y/N. Sorry, I can't come to the phone right now. Please leave your message after the beep." I put my phone back in my pocket. Yeah, something urgent had to have popped up. I collected my things and started to drive back home.

I had just parked at my home when I got a call. I looked at the ID, it was Y/N. I immediately answered the phone. "Are you okay? Where are you?" I asked. "Hello Mr, my name is doctor Jane and I have some news about Y/N." Doctor? News about Y/N? What is going on? "What's the news?" I asked hesitantly. "I think it would be better if I told you in person if possible. Are you close to Linkin Shelly Hospital?" The doctor asked. I knew that hospital. It wasn't very far from here. "I'm nearby." I replied. "Wonderful, I'll meet you at the front door then." Then the doctor hanged up. I took a deep breath and drove towards the hospital.

~A few minutes later~

I quickly arrived at the hospital and went inside. A short woman was waiting for me at the door. "Are you doctor Jane?" I asked. "Yep, follow me." She said. I followed her to a large room with several doors lining the walls. "Please sit down." She said, gesturing to the chair beside her. I hesitantly sat down. "Please forgive me for what I am about to say. Earlier today at about noon Y/N stopped in the middle of the train tracks. From what I've heard, Y/N seemed to have a bothered expression and did not notice the oncoming train. She was hit by a train that was unable to stop. She arrived at the hospital shortly after, but it was too late. I'm sorry for your loss." What? The words hit me like a truck but they didn't sink in. Y/N is gone? Y/N is gone. Y/N is gone... The words finally sunk in. The one I loved so much is gone. The woman who I had dreams to marry one day is gone. It took everything I had to not cry. "May I see her?" I asked. "Yes, but she isn't in the best of shape. Would you like to see her anyway?" The doctor asked. "Yes." I replied. She led me to a room. "I'll wait outside until you're finished." The doctor walked out of the room. I walked over to a table that was covered. I took a deep breath and pulled back the covering.

I felt tears roll down my face at the sight of her. Her face was mangled to the point of being unrecognizable. My Y/N is gone. And this was the proof. I covered my face with my hands. My phone dinged again. Despite my state, I looked at the notification. It was a calendar notification. "First dating anniversary with Y/N."  My heart sank. I remembered our conversation, "What do you mean 'what'? You asked me what we were going to do tomorrow and I said I had a fighting competition tomorrow." I had said. "Did you-" She had said. She was asking about the anniversary plans. The ones I forgot about. That's what was bothering her. If I had been with her this wouldn't have happened. This is my fault. "Your fault? Any actions that I take are my responsibility. It is in no way your fault." Y/N had said that when I had blamed myself once before. I chuckled. "Even when you're gone, I can still hear you." Another tear rolled down my face.

I thought she'd always be there. I thought I'd always be able to see her smiling face. What a cruel lesson I learned.

I apologize to any doctors or people who have had something like this happen to them. I have no idea how these things work, so I apologize if it is incorrect or insensitive. I also have no idea how those phone calls work, so I'm sorry if I got that wrong as well. I also think Yamato may be a bit out of character here, so I apologize for that. (Picture not mine. Sorry for the bad picture quality, it was the only one I could find of him looking at least semi sad.)Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed! Bye-bye
