It was not an unusual morning for Don Jose, he is used to come to breakfast earlier than his grandsons but this morning he feels a bit strange and he could not comprehend why.
"Magandang umaga po, Don Jose," Ms. Sonia happily greeted. "Welcome back po," she added.
"Thank you, Sonia. Magandang umaga rin," the old man greeted back. "Late na ba nagsi-uwi ang mga apo ko at medyo tanghali na eh wala pa kahit isa sa kanila? Si Emily rin wala pa," he commented.
"Maaga naman pong umuwi si Yago at si Franco, mas nauna po sila kesa kay Gabriel at Emily," Ms. Sonia replied. "Pero si Franco po mukhang umalis ulit kagabi at kanila lang po bumalik ulit," she added.
"Good morning, Lolo," he heard Yago greeted.
"Good morning, Santiago, halika at samahan mo akong mag-almusal," Don Jose said.
"It's nice to see you home, Lolo. Kamusta ang byahe mo?" Yago asked and took the seat beside Franco and Don Jose notices it and got a bit puzzled because his two grandsons are not in their usual spots at the dining table but he just choose not to comment anymore.
"Smooth naman ang byahe pabalik ng Manila kaya medyo naiidlip nga ako," Don Jose replied. "Kamusta kayo dito habang wala ako?" he asked.
"We are good," Yago casually replied. "Actually, Lolo, nakapag-usap na kami ni Kuya, klaro na ang lahat between us," he said.
"I am happy to hear that, apo," The chairman gladly said when they heard another voice greeted them.
"Hey, welcome back, Lolo," Franco cheerfully uttered. "How are you? How's your trip?" he further asked.
"It was good, I am glad to meet new investors," Don Jose replied.
"Are we really going global, Lolo?" Franco asked.
"That's the plan but not immediately. These trips are actually preparations to that plan. Perhaps in two to three years pa naman, ngayon pa lang bumabawi ang DBS. Let's give it another year or two para siguradong ready to take-off globally," Don Jose replied when someone greeted them.
"Good morning, Gentlemen," Gabriel greeted.
Don Jose looked back to greet Gabriel back, "Good morning ... Gab ...," but he was not able to finish was he is about to say as he got surprise seeing Gabriel and Emily walking towards them while holding hands.
He pretends not to notice and just watches them take their seats. Now his confusion about the sudden change in the seating arrangement at the dining tableis beginning to be answered. But he does not want to pre-empt, he wants Gabriel to tell him straight that his hunch is correct.
Don Jose continue to watch Gabriel and Emily. His hunch gets stronger and stronger when Gabriel assisted Emily on her seat and Emily sweetly thank his eldest grandson with a sweet careess on Gabriel's hand. Gabriel and Emily's gesture of putting food on each other's plate. Emily prepares Gabriel's coffee while the latter thank her with a sweetest smile. Don Jose took a deep sigh as this is the first time he sees Gabriel smile so sweetly. And while having their breakfast Gabriel and Emily seems to have their own world and he could not understand why his other two do not even care.
After a while of observing, Don Jose clears his throat as he could not longer control himself asking, "Am I missing something here? Is there something that I need to know?"
Gabriel and Emily suddenly halted as they realized that they have not told the old man about their recent engagement. "I'm sorry, Lolo," Gabriel said.
"Why are you apologizing, Gabriel?" Don Jose seriously asked.
"I forgot my manners and was not able to introduce to you my fiancée, Ms. Emily Fernandez," Gabriel uttered.
