24 - Temporarily In-Charge

Gabriel was restless after Riel's chat with Lily few days ago. He was not able to get a decent sleep that night after Lily told him that she already needs to sign-off. He wonders what was on her mind as she obviously swayed the topic after his revelation. He hopes that Lily did not take the confession against Riel as he was not able to talk to her again after the confession.

He could not believe himself to be that straightforward, too. He has not done that frankness ever in his life. Lily will be signing an exclusive contract with JACP and he hopes to talk to her after that event and confirmed if their coffee date will still push through as all of Riel's messages to Lily remained unseen since their last chat.

Gabriel reminded himself to be very careful about confessing to his favorite author. He does not want to scare her that would cause her to avoid talking to him. If there is one thing that he does not want to happen now, that is for Lily to stop talking to Riel.

He knows he should have not told Lily about his growing feelings for her, but he was just being honest not only to Lily but also to himself.

For several days already, he has been battling on his building-up feeling for the girl he only conversed with on-line and has not even met personally. But that fact could not stop him from loving her despite their set-up.

He closed his eyes to choose to think of happy thoughts to relax his mind on anxiety currently has. He pictures himself waiting for his date in a coffee shop in Solenad. When suddenly a lady came in the shop in ripped jeans, off shoulder blouse and doll shoes. He could not clearly see her face as the light strikes on her face. She was talking to a coffee shop staff and seems like inquiring. After a while he sees the lady walks towards him. As she comes nearer, he is beginning to see who the lady is. "Boss Gab?" is what the lady uttered. How can this be? Why is Emily standing in front of him where he supposed to meet Lily, his favorite wattpad author whom he is beginning to fall in love with.

"Boss Gab," he heard her say again. And only then that he opens his eyes and realized that he has fall asleep. "Boss Gab" he heard a familiar voice calling him while knocking at his door.

"Sino yan?" he asked though he knows who the lady behind his door is.

"Boss Gab, si Emily po ito, pinapatawag ka po ni Chairman. Gusto ka daw nyang makausap before his trip to Palawan," Emily replied. "Nandun po sya sa office nya," she added.

"Sige, bababa na ako," he uttered.

Gabriel checks on the time, it is nine in the evening and he recalls that his grandfather will be flying to Palawan early morning the next day and will be gone for two weeks with his bestfriend Lino. He already has an idea on what his grandfather will talk to him about. It is about Elizabeth's business training scheduled the coming week. But he will just deal with in once it started. For now, Lily matters most.

He immediately got up and went to his grandfather's office. Don Jose is alone in his office when Gabriel came in. "Your EA said, you want to talk to me, Lolo," Gabriel uttered.

"Yes, Gabriel. You know that Lino and I will be in Palawan to meet some investors para sa business na itatayo namin. We will be away for two weeks. Are you sure it is fine to proceed with Elizabeth's training or do you want to move it until we are back?" Don Jose asked.

"I don't have problem on when you want us to start, Lolo," Gabriel replied.

"Again, thank you, Gabriel for doing this," Don Jose said.

"You're welcome, Lolo," Gabriel replied. "Is that all po?" he asked.

"Not only that, there is another favor that I would like to ask you. I hope okay lang," Don Jose said.

"What is it, Lolo?" Gabriel asked in reply.

"I want you to work with Emily while I am gone. There are important meetings that I need to attend to as well as documents that need to be reviewed and sign," Don Jose said.

"I don't mind attending the meetings in your behalf, Lolo, as well as reviewed the documents that we need to attend to, but are you sure I can sign those documents, too?" Gabriel asked.

"You are next in command, Gabriel. Sa inyong magkakapatid, ikaw ang nakikita kong papalit sa akin and I'm sure your brothers will agree with me. I don't see anything wrong if I allow you to sign important documents for the business. I'll issue a special power of attorney allowing you to sign in my behalf," Don Jose said.

"But what get if I make a wrong judgement, Lolo?" Gabriel asked.

"You can in touch with me, Gabriel. Just give me a call, in case you have doubts," Don Jose replied.

"Okay, Lolo, I'll take over JAGC while you are in Palawan," Gabriel said.

"Pasensya ka na, Gabriel. I have no choice but to give you all these tasks kasi wala naman tayong aasahan sa dalawang kapatid mo. I don't want to force them baka lalo tayong magkaproblema," Don Jose said

"I understand, Lolo, I have the same dilemma kaya ayoko rin pilitin si Yago at si Franco," Gabriel uttered.

"I suggest you held office here while I am away," Don Jose said.

"It would be nice, Lolo. But remember, Elizabeth will start her training next week," Gabriel said.

"Then have the training here. Makakatulong mo pa si Emily sa training ni Elizabeth," Don Jose said.

"Ano naman ang maitutulong sa akin ng EA mo, Lolo?" Gabriel sarcastically asked.

"Do you know that my life gets easier when Emily started working on me. I have nothing against Fred but since Emily is still young, she knows how to handle difficult young professionals," Don Jose uttered. "Since Emily and Elizabeth are almost on the same age, baka hindi maalangan si Elizabeth if Emily helps you with her training," he added.

"All right, Lolo. Subukan kong yung suggestion mo, but if that gives me additional stress, I will do it my way," Gabriel said.

"Okay, that is fine with me," Don Jose said. "Sige magpahinga ka na, you will have a long day starting tomorrow," he added.

"Enjoy your trip, with Lolo Lino. Make this one not only a business trip but a breather, too, Lolo. You deserve it," Gabriel said.

"Pray that we could close this deal so that Lino and I could still roam around the city," Don Jose said, and Gabriel nodded, smiling.

Upon leaving the chairman's office, Gabriel said to himself, "When it rain, it pours," then he took a deep sigh and added, "First things, first ... and Lily comes first,"
