16 - Book Cover Discussion

Emily has mixed emotions while she and Yago waits for their order be served. Yago invited him for dinner outside the mansion as they do not want Gabriel to see them discussing about her book cover.

She dreamt of dining with her ultimate crush. She even joined a contest wherein the winning prize was a dinner date with Yago Del Rosario. Unfortunately, she did not win the contest, but the universe has been very good to her as she is now dining with Yago Del Rosario alone, though it is not the romantic dinner she has dream of.

"Ang lalim na iniisip mo ah. Relax ka lang, I don't bite," Yago said.

"I know that, medyo nakakailang kasi, pinagtitinginan tayo ng mga tao," Emily uttered.

"Di ba dapat expected mo na yun kasi celebrity ang kasama mo ngayong gabi," Yago commented.

"I am expecting this pero hindi ko kasi alam na ganito ang pakiramdam nang pinagtitinginan ng mga tao," Emily said.

"Sobrang mahiyain ka pala talaga, hindi yan ang first impression ko sa iyo," Yago said.

"Bakit ano ba ang first impression mo sa akin?" Emily asked.

"I thought for show lang yun uneasiness mo when we had our first breakfast together, kasi after a while okay ka naman na," Yago said.

"Nahihiya talaga ako that time, tapos ang talim pa ng tingin sa akin ni Boss Gab," Emily replied.

"Ganon talaga si Kuya, hindi ka pa ba sanay, we have been living under the same roof for months already," Yago said.

"Nasanay na rin ako kay Boss Gab. Inisip ko na hangga't wala akong ginagawang masama sa kanya wala akong dapt ikatakot or ikahiya," Emily uttered.

"We have the same stand. I did not grow up with Kuya and Franco, kaya siguro ilang kami sa isa't-isa. As long as wala akong ginagawang masama at wala rin syang ginagawang masama sa akin, pinapalagpas ko na lang yung kasungitan nya," Yago said. "Naiintindihan ko kasi si Kuya, siguro pareho lang kami ng iisipin kung sakaling ako ang lumaki sa Lolo ko at sya kasama ni Papa," he added.

"Anyway, perhaps we can talk about the book cover design since iyon naman ang dahilan why we are having this dinner," Emily said to sway the topic as she uncomfortable to talk about the siblings and their father.

"You are right, we need to talk about your book cover design. Baka hindi ako maka-meet ng deadline kay Grace," Yago uttered.

"Before anything else, I would like you to know that I appreciate that you accept the Chairman's offer to design the book covers of the winning entries. It is impressive na maisisingit mo pa yun since malapit nang mag-umpisa ang bagong PBA season," Emily said.

"I like sketching, pero that is different from totally designing a book cover. I know Kuya Gab does it better than Franco and me. Mabuti na lang pumayag si Grace na sketching ang gagawin ko for the book cover," Yago said.

"Maganda concept yung sketching since first book naming mga author ang ilalabas," Emily uttered.

"Perhaps that is the reason why Lolo did not agree to use your friend's book cover design. We have to stick to the concept for the cover of all the book to be released," Yago explained. "Perhaps on your second book, pwedeng yung friend mo na ang mag design ng book cover. I am not a resident book cover designer of JACP. My contract is only for this project," he added.

"I hope I did not offend you when I suggested for my friend's book cover design," Emily uttered.

"No offense taken, Emily. Okay lang sa akin kasi kabawasan din sa trabaho ko yun," Yago said.

"Thank you for understanding, Yago. At least I can tell my friend that I tried, hindi nga lang pumayag ang JACP," Emily said.

"That's the spirit," Yago uttered. "So, tell me, what do you envision in the design of your book's cover?" he asked.

"I honestly don't have an idea. Wala akong creativity pagdating sa mga design na yan. Yung cover ng story ko sa wattpad, plain text and background lang, ginawan lang ako ni Riel ng book cover kaya mas nagkaroon ng life yung libro," Emily uttered.

"Who is Riel, if I may ask?" Yago asked.

"Sya yung friend ko na mag-design sana ng book cover ko," Emily replied.

"Is that what he does for a living?" Yago asked.

"Nope, he is into sales, kapag bored lang daw sya saka sya gumagawa ng iba't-ibang design," Emily replied.

"I see," Yago said. "The project team is very impressed at your work. Sabi nila hindi halatang amateur writer ang gumawa," Yago commented.

"Thank you, matagal ko na ring isinulat ang entry ko na yun kaya na-polish na rin. I only make some tweak para naman hindi magmukhang matagal nang ginawa," Emily said.

"Practice makes perfect," Yago commented.

"Yes, practice makes perfect," Emily agreed.

"What is your muse for your story? Lahat ba ng ginawa mong stories romance ang genre?" Yago asked and Emily just remains staring with amusement at him. "May mali bas a tanong ko o may dumi ako sa mukha?" he further asked.

"Pardon me?" Emily asked.

"Ang dami ko nang tanong sa iyo pero nakatitig ka lang sa akin," Yago said.

"I'm sorry, I just can't believe I am dinning with my favorite basketball player and talking about my work. Ang layo ng book cover design sa basketball, how did you do that?" Emily asked.

"Let's just say that I need basketball to live and I sketch to release my creativity," Yago said. "I'm sure nabanggit na ni Lolo that Papa also do book cover design," Yago said.

"Yes, pero ang sabi nya si Boss Gab ang nakakuha ng talent na yun ni Papa nyo," Emily said.

"At yung galing sa basketball ang namana ko kay Papa," Yago said. "Papa was a varsity player, too, when he was in college. Pero nawala sya sa varsity kasi mas pinili nyang mag-drawing kaya hindi nya na-meet ang required grades to stay in the varsity," Yago said.

"Ikaw ang nagpatuloy ng pagiging basketball player," Emily said.

"I embrace basketball because of Papa. I saw how proud he was whenever nanalo ang team namin. In that way nararamdaman kong nakikita ako ni Papa," Yago poured-out

"You live with your father, paanong hindi ka nya makikita?" Emily asked.

"He maybe with me but his mind was always in Manila. Every single day, wala syang binabanggit kundi si Kuya Gabriel at Franco. Hindi ko nga maintindihan why he worried for my siblings eh sila nga yung may magandang buhay. They live a comfortable life unlike me and Papa," Yago continued talking. "I'm sorry, we are supposed to talk about your book cover design. Ang pangit naman na ako ang may hugot. Pasensya ka na," he further commented.

"I really don't mind you pouring out your frustrations, feeling ko tuloy close na tayo," Emily kidded.

"Wala namang masama kung maging close tayo since magkasama tayo sa isang house. Pwede pa nga na maging tayo eh," Yago uttered which causes Emily to choke.
