Chapter 69- Happier

A month flew by.

And time just so happened to land on this dreadful day.

Why exactly was I ignoring this day?

Long story short, it was the date of Nolans trial.

Yes I know, exciting!

At home, with the rain spitting against my glass window, I was all alone with Vicky attempting to entertain me. The main reason why I didn't go to court was because I couldn't push myself to enter that room with everyones eyes on me. Nolans in particular. Dad said it was up to the victim if they were comfortable enough to go along with it, and I chose not to, as I knew I would have more of that face virus my brain than it already had. Gladly, the rest accepted without any further questions.

Thrilled, puzzled, tired, I didn't know how to feel.

I was left numb here.

Yet I still wondered what was going on right now, then again I didn't want to, but i just couldn't help it. It had been an hour since Adrian and the rest had left, anything could happen without me being the first to know. Did I make the mistake of not attending? Maybe I wouldn't have had this many questions cloud my mind if I had just gone.

"So then he threatened me that if I didn't get my fat ass and work, he'd fire me. And then I told him straight up, because I couldn't be assed listenting to his annoying voice. You might kill me for saying this to my boss, but I said: I don't give a shit. My fat ass needs a break sometimes, just like how your fat belly looks like it needs some excercise ... I mean, have you seen his balloon belly?" Vicky babbled in the background as I stared at my hands. "Who is he to offend my healthy butt when he clearly doesn't have a spectre of him being healthy?"

"Uh huh."

"You're not listening, are you?" Vicky interrupted my thoughts when she paused the ramble.

Sightly guilty, my heart nipped at how I had ignored her when she tried to bring a slight part of normality back into my life. Even if I had heard this story before, it wouldn't had harmed anyone to just sit there and listen.

I cleared my mind, and got a grip by paying full attention now. "No, what were you saying?"

"Forget it, it's not important anyways," she dismissed with a slight smurk before her eyes landed on the empty boxes of Pop-Tarts on the ground. "Girl, aren't you even concerned about developing diabetes from the amount of Pop- Tarts you consume within a day? Because honey, I can assure you that since the last time I saw you, you've developed a belly like my boss."

"I do not have belly," I went quick to defend myself, smacking her arm. "I just bloat easily ... it will go later. Besides, Pop- Tarts are my comfort food."

"Are you sure?" She teasingly grimaced at me as I cursed at this sassiness. "Because I'm sure a belly like that is perminent."

The reason why the house was overstocked with Pop-Tarts was because dad had lost the bet that we had created. Turns out that Kal and Tee Tee couldn't hold themselves back from discovering what the gender of the baby was going to be. They figured it was a better decision, because they had to buy the most appropriate clothes and wanted to design the nursery. After watching the baby shower through through Carson's phone, it was revealed that another boy would be added to the family. Baby Carl was going to enter this world and experience how wonderful life could be. I couldn't wait to see him.

As for dad, when he found out, he was still mopping around the house. He was so adamant that it was going to be a girl. That only proved my point about how a cop didn't know everything after all. Still, I knew for a fact he was going to continue to use that phrase.
