Chapter 10- Meeting The Monster Under My Bed

I was resting on the couch with Reese sleeping next to me, while binge watching The Office. This was a regular routine I relied on whenever I was home alone with Reese after I finished all my homework.

Dads was still at work, he would come home in an hour. However, I couldn't stop thinking about Jillian, she really was amazing, and I understood why mom would be best friends with her. I left after she revealed the garden, and she begged me to stay for dinner, but I promised her I would for another day. And that was a promise that I would be keep, I would definitely visit her again.

A harsh knock was heard on the door, normally nobody knocked on our door around this hour. But I got up anyway to go answer it, unintentionally waking up Reese from his nap. Reese trailed behind me, because he liked to protect me a lot.

With the jingling keys, I unblocked the door. When I was revealed to who it was, I was shocked.

"Nolan?"

He was slouching in a raincoat and it was pouring outside, everything looked gloomy, and smelt damp.

"Can I come in?" He slurred.

"Don't tell me that you're drunk?" I groaned, staring at his bloodshot eyes. My rage was boiling to see him intoxicated, again. How many times was I going to deal with this side of him?

He shoved past me and invited himself in, carrying a bottle of whiskey. Reese started to growl at him, he frequently did that everytime Nolan came over. It was strange because Reese loved every person he met apart from Nolan, they just never bonded.

"Yeah make your self at home, you're already doing that," I said sarcastically.

Nolan stumbled over to the kitchen, and sat down on the counter. He didn't know what he was doing, because his body had a mind of its own. His brain was trying to figure out what was wrong by sending signals, but his body just wasn't listening.

"You know, you can't be here, my dad will be back home in about an hour." I bit my lip anxiously as I glanced at the time on my phone.

If dad had found out that Nolan was developing a drinking problem, it wouldn't have ended well. He was a cop, which meant that he held more responsibilities and wanted the best, especially for me, his daughter. I had to persuade him to accept the fact that I was dating Nolan, and that took forever. I could only picture him coming home and throwing him out of our house, threatening him to stay away from me. And I didn't want that.

He took a long a chug from his bottle throwing his head back, squinting as the whiskey burned his throat. "Why have you been ignoring me?"

I rolled my eyes at him. "I said I forgave you."

"You did?" He questioned. His mind wasn't in the right place to the point he had forgotten the conversation we had in the morning.

I took a seat opposite him. "Yeah, now I'm contemplating."

"Why?"

"Because, you're drunk yet again." I snatched the slippery bottle from his hand. "How many times do I have to deal with you acting like a child?"
