Chapter 45- Smurfs
I stared at the paper crane mobile hanging up in the corner of the attic while listening to Skylar vent about how much she really missed her blue hair.
Yup, she dyed it back the second she came home from the wedding. Let me just mention how hard it was to get all that sticky cake out of my hair, there's probably still some stuck behind my ear.
"Like blue, it's just so much better. It's less average and it's so vibrant and makes you feel different." She gushed to her reflection.
"You know, you should dye your hair. Yeah, I think you'd suit purple or something," she suggested, but I wasn't listening.
"Uh huh." I sighed deeply pushing a crane and watching it swing back and forth.
In the corner of my eye I could see her looking at me. "And you're not listening to me, great!" She commented sarcastically. "Anyways what's wrong with you?" She hopped onto the bed causing the mattress to bounce. "It's about mom, isn't it?"
Ding, ding, ding!
"She's still not speaking to us." I groaned, flipping myself on my back to stare up at the slanted ceiling.
"She'll speak to us soon enough," Skylar said rather casually. "Trust me I'm used to the silent treatment, she gets mad whenever things don't go her way. But she can't keep up with it for long, and sooner or later she'll start speaking to us."
"I just feel guilty for destroying that expensive wedding cake." I sighed in annoyance, letting my chest fall.
"I don't," she admitted, making me glance over at her. "And remember we didn't ruin it, Leah did. Besides, I got to do what I always wanted to do." She shrugged.
"Well good for you." I smiled through sealed lips. "I loved how dad kicked her and Carol out."
"Plus moms not speaking to Carol anymore," Skylar informed me.
My ears pricked up like I might had misheard her. "What?"
"Yeah, I overheard them get into an argument over the phone. Something about how Carol blamed us guys for upsetting her daughter and she should've never been kicked out because it 'wasn't Leahs fault." She air quoted.
This was a huge sacrifice for Tee Tee. The best friend she thought she had actually turned out to be a backstabbing cow. I was pleased that she let a toxic family go, even if it took four dreadful long years.
"Yeah of course, nothing is ever Leahs fault," I responded mockingly. "She used to get away with everything, remember that time she deliberately broke Tee Tees China vase and blamed it on us? No one even believe us when we tried to justify it. I'm glad that things have changed for the better."
"Oh I remember that," Skylar stated. "Good thing I told mom about everything."
"Everything? Even you trying to make yourself vomit again ..." I faded off not wanting to make her feel uncomfortable.
Steadily, she nodded at me while keeping her gaze low. "Yeah even that, and I told her how Leah was part of the reason. She was devastated to hear all this, but of course, because she's my mom, she wasn't just going to stand back and let this happen. And I think her and Carol are officially not friends anymore."
"Is it bad that I'm happy two best friends have separated?" I admitted.
She shook her head in deny. "Not at all, if ones evil like her daughter."
I sat up with my legs crossed , observing her. "You said Leah was part of the reason why you vomited. What was the other reason?"
"The food tasted like crap." She created a gagging noise, and I could tell she wasn't lying or covering it up. "How can you even call that food?"
