Chapter 13- Troy And Gabriella Have Nothing On Us
I took a seat in my English literature class, knowing Nolan would enter any second. I pulled out my Wuthering Heights book to keep myself occupied.
'Be with me always - take any form - drive me mad! only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! it is unutterable! I can not live without my life! I can not live without my soul!'
It was almost as though Emily Brontë was speaking to me directly. This was exactly what Nolan was doing to me, he was leaving me behind to do what made him feel relieved and pleasured.
I heard a high pitch screech against the floor, and I looked up to find Nolan, dragging himself to his seat.
He was wasted, yet again, and this time it was in the school building.
As his crystal eyes came into contact with mine, a sneer emerged on his lips. "Mila." He chuckled. "Do you have a twin?" He asked, his eyes going funky.
I slammed my book shut and stood my ground. "I can't ... I can't do this anymore."
"Can't do what?" He knitted his eyebrows lazily.
I gestured towards him. "You're acting like this, I'm not letting you torture yourself like this. You're expecting me to be with you and accept all this, that's not how a relationship should work."
He brought his face closer to mine, and I could smell the revolting scent of alcohol all over his clothing. "It's not torture, if I like it." He grinned wickedly. "And I guess our relationship is different, we're not like other people."
He wasn't wrong, we weren't like other people. However, it meant that we didn't enjoy or share love with one and another. We didn't go on dates like everyone else, or laugh and know that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with this one person. I never felt that with Nolan, and it hurt.
Mr Carpenter walked into class with his usual breef case. "Good morning class."
"Today's lesson will be a little different. Instead of talking about how Catherine and Heathcliff were lovers, let's talk about how their relationship was toxic and how they shouldn't had fallen in love," he announced.
This couldn't get any better, great.
"Is there anyone who would like to volunteer and answer my question whether you think their relationship was toxic?"
To my surprise for the first time ever, almost the entire class raised their hands to answer the question, all but Nolan and I, of course.
"Woah," Mr Carpenter chuckled. "Cindy, why don't you answer first." He pointed towards a girl at the back with a dark pixie cut.
She gently placed her hand back on the desk to answer the question. "In some parts, I think it was quite disturbing. They were both raised as siblings, and even though they weren't blood related, it was still wrong to fall in love with someone you counted as a sibling."
"Okay, that is a very good point," agreed Mr Carpenter, leaning his back against his desk. "But let's see if someone has another opinion. Hmmm, Johnny you have your hand raised, why don't you answer?"
