"He isn't my boyfriend." I argued for the fifth time.
"Really? You definitely like him though. Why else would you let him sleep in your room?" Liam asked as he leant against the doorframe.
"Because his daughter had a cut on her head, it was too late for him to drive back, and they were both exhausted last night. And let's also not forget how panicked me just have been." I stated the obvious. He's been keeping me awake since five, it's seven now.
I stood up and walked to the kitchen to pour myself a coffee. Everything had fallen silent, I turned around and saw no trace of Liam. I sighed, he knows I hate when he leaves in the middle of a conversation. It gets very lonely in my head when he isn't here.
I leant against the counter, sipping my coffee, when I heard the bedroom door open. I could automatically tell that it was Leela who was going to appear, due to the minimal creaking of the floor boards, Jaden's body weight having made a bigger creak, and the sound of the balls her feet hitting the floor was quiet and fast. Not to my surprise, the little girl turned the corner into the kitchen.
"Ro Ro?" She asked as she rubbed her eye.
"Hey peanut, what's up?" I asked as I put my coffee on the side.
"Where am I?" She asked confused.
"You're in Ro Ro's apartment silly. Don't you remember? Last night, daddy brought you here after you hit your head and you guys fell asleep." I explained as I sat her on the kitchen side.
"Oh yeah." She mumbled, still tired.
"How is your head today princess?" I asked as I poured her a glass of water to drink.
"It hurts a little bit. Right here." She said as she pointed to the area above her cut.
"Yeah, it will for a little bit. You need to try not to touch it too much, so it can get better." I explained as I gave her the water. "Do you want some breakfast?" I asked.
"Do you have toast?" She asked with excitement.
"I can make you toast if you want some toast." I smiled as I got some bread out of the bread bin.
"Can you put jelly on it please?" She asked again.
(^^This sentence bothers me more than it should.)"I think I have some. Do you want strawberry or raspberry?" I asked as I put the bread in the toaster and opened the fridge.
"Stawbewwy please." She squealed.
I walked over to her and got her off the side. I took her to the living room and put on Onwards for her on the tv. I walked back to the kitchen just in time for the toast to pop up. I got out the jelly (should be jam) and spread it on. I walked back out to her and place the plate on the table in front of her. She flopped onto the floor to get closer to the table and started to eat, not taking her eyes off the movie.
"Thank you Ro Ro." She said in between bites.
"You're welcome sweetheart." I smiled as I ruffled her hair.
It had been an hour since Leela woke up, and pissy pants was still asleep. I'm convinced he is dead at this point. Like so much to the point I walked into the room just to check he was still breathing. He was.
"I'm going to wake daddy up." Leela said randomly as she bounded away to my bedroom. I didn't even bother stopping her, I just followed her.
When I got to the room, I saw Leela sat criss-cross on Jaden's stomach. She had taken her hands and hit them against both of his cheeks, quite hard. She started smooshing his face together and lightly pinching the skin.
"Wake up daddy." She shouted as she lightly hit his chest.
Jaden slowly started to gain consciousness as his four year old continued to hit his chest. When his body became less heavy, he lifted his hand up to cover Leela's mouth in hopes to muffle the sound she was creating. She lightly nipped his hand, causing him to take it away from her face.
"Morning daddy." She said innocently, as if she didn't just beat the shit out of him to wake him up.
"Good morning baby." He chuckled in a low, mumbled voice.
He lifted her off of his body and sat up, his back cracking as he did so. He stood up, causing more of his bones to crack. But that didn't matter because the look in his face when he realised I was stood there was to die for. He jumped back, and sat back down on the bed, trying to calm himself down.
"Jesus fucking Christ. I didn't realise you were awake." He breathed out.
"What? You thought I'd just let your four year old run around an apartment that is quite unsafe, on her own?" I asked, fake shocked.
"She didn't wake you up did she?" He asked, almost sounding guilty.
"No, no. I was awake before she came out. She woke up about seven I think." I explained as he nodded. "Do you want food? I can make some toast if you want. Or you could help yourself to more of my cereal if you'd like." I laughed, thinking back to over a week ago when he was here. He laughed too and stood up again, this time his bones not performing a protest as he did.
"No I'm good. Do you have a toothbrush?" He asked as he cracked his knuckles. I've never wanted to punch him more. Actually that's probably a lie.
"Yeah, there should be some under the sink." I said as I turned out of the room and into the kitchen, putting the laundry, I had collected, into the machine and pouring two cups of coffee and a chocolate milk.
I was brought out of my thoughts, and staring out the window, by a little feet hitting the floor again, this time at a considerable pace. I turned around and saw Leela running around with the shirt I gave Jaden resting on her shoulders, being held together by a hair tie. She was pretending to be a superhero.
"Here you go Miss." I said as I put the chocolate milk on the coffee table.
"My name is Lady Unicorn, thank you very much peasant." She said in a sophisticated manor.
"My apologies Lady Unicorn." I said as I bowed to her before standing up straight to be met with Jaden leant against the doorframe. "And a coffee for you Mr Hossler. Unless you have a superhero name too." I teased as I handed him the mug.
"I most certainly do not." He laughed as he took the mug and thanked me.
"That's because you're boring." Leela chimed in from her seat on the sofa.
"No, it's just too early to be superhero's." He said as he took a sip of the coffee. I looked at him like he just committed a murder and asked me to hide the body. "What?" He asked when he noticed my state.
"I am so sorry to have to do this, but we are going to have to terminate this friendship, you are no longer allowed in my life. How fucking dare you." I said dramatically as he laughed.
"Stop swearing, I can't get another letter from her school saying she's been going around swearing. Apparently 'but Aunty Ro Ro said it' is not a viable excuse." He said as he pointed to Leela who looked like she was in a trance.
"Sorry." I laughed.
