Roxy pov
If there was a human version of leeches, Jaden Hossler would be one. This man just does not leave me alone, and if it wasn't for the fact that he's a police officer, I'd gladly give his face a bit of re-arrangement.
Take a wild guess as to what the first thing I saw on a Saturday evening, when I walked into the changing rooms in the hospital.
If you guessed Jaden fucking Hossler, then congratulations, you get a cookie.
"Why can't you just leave me alone?" I whined as I placed my bags in my locker. "Wait, you can't be here, you're a male and don't work here. Why are you in the female changing rooms?" I asked as I removed my shirt, not before glaring at him, waiting for him to turn around.
"I told you I'd talk to you later Rox." He laughed with his back turned to me.
"Stop calling me Rox." I gritted as I glared at him through the mirror. It was only then that I realised my stupidity and he saw me changing either way because of the fucking mirror.
"Why? Am I bringing back unpleasant memories?" He asked, a teasing tone laced his tongue as he smirked at me through the mirror.
He knew exactly what he was doing. There was only one person who ever called me Rox. And that was my little brother. One of the other reasons I despise this man with a burning passion. It was under his orders for his squadron to open fire that night. My 15 year old brother was inside that building that night. They weren't aiming for him, but he got caught.
He was rushed into my hospital that night, the night I was working. Despite the fact that I was the most qualified to remove the 15 bullets that firing squad pummelled into him that night, because he was my family, I wasn't allowed to perform the operation. The last things I ever heard him say was "I love you Rox." And just like that my baby brother was gone.
"Just fucking stop." I said as I rushed out, not wanting the tears to fall. I walked straight to the desk to get my first patient of the night. "Hey Peter. What you got for me tonight?" I asked as I leant against the desk.
"Ahh, Miss Roxy, how are you doing my sweet?" He asked as he stood up with a clipboard and kissed the side of my head.
Peter has been here with me since I started. It's very often that you'll see me at his house, or him at my apartment with his husband and their beautiful mixed race babies. He's like the father figure I never got, due to him being significantly older than me.
"I'm doing great Pete. Just trying to get by." I laughed as I looked behind me to see Jaden approaching fast. "So what've you got for me?" I rushed as I turned my head back to the man stood in front of me.
"Well, you're in luck. You've got a major surgery on your case. Car crash. Severe lacerations to the face, a broken arm and the wheel smashed. Dodgy car obviously, but now a piece is tunnelling it's way through their body, quite close to the heart. Have fun." He smiled as he handed me the clipboard he just read off of.
It's not twisted to get excited over stuff like this as a doctor. It's actually quite normal for doctors who get severe cases like this to get excited. It means you get more open surgery options, and gets you higher in your field. I was excited for two reasons. One: it's been weeks since I last did a surgery. And two: it means pissy pants has to leave me alone since he isn't allowed back with me. What a fucking shame.
I had just started to walk away when I realised that there wasn't a room listed in the folder, so I made a quick return to be Pete. Not before looking for the vile human being that follows me around like a bad smell. I was quite content when I saw him talking to Micheal, the gay night shift nurse who has the hots for him. Quite frankly I think Micheal is a bit psychotic for his taste in men, but tonight's it's my saving grace.
"Pete. What's the room number?" I asked as I leant on the desk.
"Roxy my dear. I'm offended you even have to ask that question. It's your room obviously." He laughed as I laughed too, before rushing off to the room.
Jaden had just been released from the blabbering mouth of Micheal. And now it was a race to see who could get to those doors first. If it was me, he'd have no choice but to leave me alone because it's an OR, something he isn't allowed in without permission from the highers. If it's him... we'll then I'm just fucked.
I had just got to the doors when his voice echoed through my ears, causing my blood to boil instantly.
"Roxy-"
"Sorry Jaden, I have a patient that I urgently need to deal with. You'll have to wait." I said as I smiled at him sarcastically, slowly shutting the door, watching him. He rolled his eyes at me, but his attention was soon drawn away by his co-worker, Laura Samuels. Not going to lie, she is hot as fuck. I'm surprised he isn't banging her, but last I heard she's engaged to her boyfriend. If it wasn't for him, I'd so get her into my bed.
