Roxy pov
"Where are you going?" He asked as he saw I had my purse in my hand.
"To work?" I said, more as a question because I thought it was obvious where I was going.
"How long is your shift?" He asked, not in a controlling way, he genuinely seemed curious.
"I'm pretty sure it's five and a half hours, but I don't know if I've got a surgery on, so there is a possibility that it will run over." I explained as he nodded.
"Have fun." He smiled as he hugged me.
"Thanks." I laughed as he did too.
I pulled away from the hug and pecked him quickly before walking out of the house and to my car. I lied to him. My shift didn't start for another hour. I was actually going to see Alice. I really needed someone to talk to after hearing Leela's breakdown earlier.
I drove to the address Alice had given me, and it seemed to be a very sophisticated building. I walked into the lobby and went up to the floor she said. I knocked on her door number and waited for her to answer it. I was shocked when a different woman, wearing an oversized shirt and underwear opened the door. She smiled at me and leant against the door.
"Are you here for Alice?" She said with a heavy Scottish accent.
"I am, is she here?" I asked.
"I sure am. What's up Roxy?" Alice asked as she popped into the frame behind the woman. "Oh, sorry. Come in. This is Beki, Becks, this is Roxy." She smiled as she moved Beki out of the way for me to enter.
"Nice to meet you." I smiled at her, trying to hide the fact that I fucked her girlfriend a while ago.
"You too." She smiled back. "I'll be in the room bub." She said to Alice who nodded.
She walked off and Alice ushered us to sit down on the sofa. She leant back and rested her feet on the coffee table.
"You seemed stressed on the phone. What's going on in that pretty head of yours?" She questioned as she looked over at me.
"I feel bad." I sighed.
"Babe, we can't go on like this, you gotta be straight with me. Why do you feel bad?" She laughed slightly.
"So Jaden, the dad of my baby, has a daughter already. And earlier he explained to her that he was the dad and she had a breakdown because she thought that now he wasn't going to love her anymore because of his new baby. And now I feel bad because I know she feels that way, and I'm living in her house, and it's not fair to her. But he won't let me leave and go back to my apartment because he's worried for me. And I just don't know what to do." I explained.
"Woah, woah. Slow down. None of that is your fault Roxy. What you need to remember is that he is still her parent. You are not. He knows how his daughter works better than you do, and if he thinks how he's doing things is going well then it probably is. If things get worse then you can talk to him about it, but until then just leave it. He knows what he's doing, and at the end of the day, if he feels it's too much for her, he will sort it." She smiled.
"You're right. Thanks bunny." I smiled as I stood up.
I had been called in early for my shift so I had to leave pretty hastily. I gave her a hug goodbye and called out a bye to Beki who called one back as I opened the door. I quickly rushed out of the building, into my car and sped off to the hospital.
I walked inside the hospital and changed into my scrubs. I began my rounds, but was stopped by one of my patients.
"Excuse me miss?" He asked as he stopped me.
"How can I help you Mr Jacobs?" I asked as I turned to the elderly man in the bed.
"Can you ask for my son to come down. I know you guys are trying as hard as you can to keep me alive, but it isn't going to be long until there isn't anything you can do. I would really like to talk to him before I pass." His sentences made me tear up slightly due to my heightened hormones.
"Of course I can sir." I smiled as I called the number he gave me.
His son answered and I asked him to come down to the hospital upon request from his father. He complied and was on his way down.
"Your son will be here shortly Mr Jacobs-"
"Oh please dear, call me Ernie." He smiled as he held onto my hands.
"Okay Ernie. Do you mind telling me your story? I'm sure a man like you has a lot of adventures to discuss." He chuckled and ushered for me to sit down.
I quickly learnt that Ernie was a tailor who made suits for the presidents over his years. The first president he made a suit for was John F Kennedy and the most recent one being George Bush in his second term. He also told me how he married his wife at seventeen and was married until she died just under a year ago. He has a son named Harry, and two grandsons, Billy and Myles. He spoke about them with such love that it helped me to realise what a real family was like.
Our conversation was cut short by his son entering the room. I smiled and stood up, giving my goodbyes, and leaving the room. I finished up my rounds and put the charts back in their respected places. I was about to go and check up on the last few patients I had here today when Peter stopped me.
"What's up P?" I asked, noticing the guilty look he had on his face.
"I'm so sorry baby." He said as he smiled sympathetically at me.
"Why? What's going on?"
He didn't say anything. He just pointed over to my office, where the officials of the hospital and my boss were stood with solemn looks on their faces. This wasn't going to go well.
