Roxy pov

"Roxy, you shouldn't be back at work right now." Peter said when he saw me preparing for a surgery.

"P, I'm fine. What happened was a fluke and isn't going to happen again. I can't just stop working because if one little incident, what kind of doctor would I be?" I asked as I finished setting up the scalpels.

"Uh, one that cares for their health and for the safety of their baby?" He said in a 'duh' tone.

"I do care Pete, why do you think I reduced my shifts back to six hours instead of twelve?" I asked rhetorically.

"That's not- Roxy, no. You only did that because Jaden forced you to." He argued.

"Yeah, and he knows now not to interfere with my working hours again. He'll be lucky if he can father anymore children." I said smugly as I turned to him.

"You are so fucking stubborn." He laughed out.

"But that's what makes me amazing." I laughed back to him.

"Your shift finished three hours ago." Jaden said when I left the operating room.

"Jesus Christ, you don't need to be sat there with a fucking egg timer. So what my shift went over a little, I was in the middle of a surgery, I'm not just going to leave the patient hanging open because my shift ended." I argued as I walked to the desk and put the folder back into the pigeon hole for the next doctor to take over.

"Roxy, you can't be over doing it. You're going to stress yourself out." He said as he followed me into the changing rooms.

"No. What's going to stress me out is having someone breathing down my neck twenty four fucking seven. I don't need to babysat, what happened was a fucking accident. I've tried as hard as I can to be compliant with what you want by staying with you temporarily. But here is where I draw the fucking line. You can't just show up at my work because my shift ran over. News flash, I'm a fucking doctor, a patients life is more important than over running a shift, unless you've worked a shift over twenty hours long. I'm a grown ass woman, I don't need you decided every little thing that I should or shouldn't do. It's exhausting." I said as I changed out of my scrubs into my normal clothes.

"I just want what's best for the baby." He defended.

"If you want what's best for the baby, you'd loosen the fucking leash you've put me on before I bite back at you and do something stupid. Now I'm going somewhere. You don't need to fucking know where, all you need to know is I'll be back soon. And don't even fucking think about following me, or I will get my dogs and leave your fucking place. I really wouldn't fucking push your boundary if I were you." I said as I left him in the room.

I heard him sigh. Maybe I was a little bit harsh but he needs to know. I'm not an easy person to deal with, but anyone would react in a similar fashion if they were being monitored like that all the time. It's like I can't even piss without him there to hold my hand.

I sighed. I knew something like this was bound to happen sooner or later, but I didn't expect her to be that pressed about it. Why can't she just understand that it's for the baby?

I know showing up at her work was a mistake and that I probably should've just given her a little bit of space, but I was worried that's all. I waited until her shift ran over two and a half hours to go and look for where she is. I just wanted to make sure she was safe.

I decided that I was going to listen to what she said, and not follow her. Instead I went home.

When I got back, I heard a massive crash come from upstairs, followed by the sound of crying. I had left Leela with a babysitter that I thought I could trust considering she's done it before, but I guess not. I had ran up the stairs into Leela's room to see her on the floor, holding her head, and a glass ornament shattered all over the floorboards.

"Watch your hand." I said to her as she went to lean back.

I had startled her which caused her to put her hand down anyway, right into a pile of glass shards. She pulled her hand back pretty quickly and started to cry even more. When she noticed that I was stood in the doorframe, she attempted to get up and make her way over, before I quickly stopped her, noticing she was barefoot.

"No. Stay there and daddy will come to you." I instructed, considering the fact that I still had shoes on.

I walked over to her, not caring if I stood on the glass and picked her up. She quickly clung onto me like a koala and rested her head on my shoulder, still crying. I rubbed her back as I turned and walked out of the room. I carried her all the way down the stairs and was heading to the kitchen when I passed by Neve, the babysitter, who had a stunned look on her face.

"I pay you to watch over her and keep Lee safe, not for you to come over and sleep." I said, thinking back to how I noticed her asleep on the sofa when I passed by.

"You're right, I'm sorry." She said as she put her head down.

"Yeah, well today was your last day and your pay will decrease. You should get it through at some point today or tomorrow." I said to her.

"No, Mr Hossler, please. I love this job." She protested.

"Well you should have thought about that. You know where the door is, so please use it. I have to take care of my daughter." I said as I turned away from her and walked into the kitchen.

I placed Leela down on the side, and waited for the front door to close.
