Thorn sighs it was a nice day outside, but she wasn't paying attention to the weather. She was supposed to be having a date with Arrow right now. Dove and Tyson were watching the puppies while the mates would finally get  some time alone, but Arrow was taking forever getting back from whatever he had been doing.

Finally the Dachshund that she fell in love with showed up, but she could instantly feel that something wasn't exactly right. He was as charismatic as usual. "Hey hon, you ready for that date." Thorn asks, wagging her tail a bit, making Arrow wag his tail as well. "Yeah, it's been forever since we got some time to ourselves." Arrow admitted sitting down. "Alpha and Beta work is harder with four puppies isn't it?" Thorn asks Arrow, who slightly flinches at the title. Just four months ago. He was basically a lone dog. Now he's the second in command of his own pack.

The flinch doesn't go unnoticed by Thorn though. She could read Arrow like an open book, but she decided to let it go for now. "Okay, then let's go." Thorn suggested as Arrow nodded, getting up and following his mate.

It had been a long day for the dachshund dog who accidentally ran into his parents. Who he hadn't seen since he ran off and became a lone dog, and let's just say that it didn't go well. There was a reason he ran off when he was younger. His mom and dad never understood him. They were mad and embarrassed that he was book smart rather than street smart. They said he couldn't amount to anything in life, and when he tries to defend himself saying that he was something, and that he had a beautiful female mate, and four pup's they just laughed not believing him as no dog who doesn't know how to hunt shouldn't have a mate.

That made all his insecurities about this relationship come back. He didn't know why Thorn wanted him in the first place. He wasn't brave or strong, he wasn't the best at hunting, and he wasn't that great of a Beta either. Thorn could have had so much more then just him. He tried shaking the negative words off but the last sentence he heard before heading back was, "I wish you were more like your sister." Those words brought back so many memories. His sister Jewel was always the favorite, and Jewel knew it. Jewel despised Arrow and added onto the emotional abuse he was used to. She helped lead  to running away

He hadn't seen Jewel since that day, well scratch that  he had noticed her once after he was mates with Thorn with a male dachshund, but after that he kind of forgot about her especially after finding out Thorn and him were having puppies. But since their parents brought it up it made the memories reappear. That's when he bumped into Thorn, who he hadn't noticed stopped walking. "Okay Arrow, you've been silent this whole walk! What's going on?" Thorn asks gently as Arrow just shook his head, "It's nothing I was just thinking. Nothing to worry about hon." Arrow says trying to keep the tremble out of his voice, and doing a pretty good job, but Thorn knew him better than that.

"Arrow I know you better than that something is bothering you. I want to know what please." Thorn asks as Arrow sighs, "Thorn why me?" Arrow asks quietly, making Thorn look at him, "What do you mean by 'why me?" Thorn asks in confusion as the question seems to come out of nowhere. "I mean why did you choose me to be your mate when there are so many male dogs that are much better than I." Arrow asks sadly as Thorn looks to him in shock.

They had this conversation before they even started talking about being mates and he seemed to trust her every word and he seemed more confident as well. What brought him back to this insecurity? "Arrow, you know why… what brought this up?" Thorn asks, worriedness filling her voice. As Arrow just shook his head, "I don't want to talk about it." Arrow says making Thorn's worries grow, Arrow always tells her almost everything. Something must have happened during the hunt, because he was fine when he left.
