Getting Home For Christmas

"Remind me how I even got myself into this?" Pumpkin  asks Diamond  and Jade pointedly this was supposed to be a fun day for the three animals, but of course the unexpected  snow storm of the year had to blow in and now they were having  trouble  finding  their way back.

"Your the one who wanted to go farther." Diamond hisses as she takes another  step in the fresh snow that just lies above three inches, and the snow still falling  did help any. 

"I need to be home by tonight. It's  Christmas  and Georgie always looks forward to Christmas, and she  actually makes decent food. Ugh Mira  is probably  going  to get all the good stuff." Pumpkin  says irritably  as she was hungry, and even though Pumpkin  proved hanging  out with her friends she would  rather be hanging out with her newly adopted sister and her owner in their apartment.  It was Mira's first Christmas  and Pumpkin  wanted to be with her. Although  the pup was overly  annoying  and cautious  at times. Pumpkin  still loved her.

"I'm gettin ya home as fast as I can! But it's hard with all this snow!" The black pug calls out, shaking  her coat to rid it from the white flecks landing  on her. "I promise ya, I'll  get you home before  nightfall… hopefully." Jade says as the orange tabby nods in agreement. 

"Exactly, and it betta be quick I'm not turning  into a catcicle just for you leashed dog." The orange cat says sneakily as they continue on slowly. Pumpkin  just huffs looking  up to the clouded sky.

"Of course it had to snow today." Pumpkin  says with another huff. "Don't  worry Georgie  and Mira, I'll  be home soon." Pumpkin  says quietly to herself trotting faster. She was going to get home before  Christmas.

The white  flakes flew around  outside the window of their home. Mira just sighs heading  over to where Georgie was still cooking for the people  in  need this holiday.

She watches Georgie  who is humming along with the Christmas  music.

She stops when she notices Mira standing  there. "Hey girl, what are you  doing? " Georgie asks not taking her eyes off the work at hand. Mira just whimpers once again looking  out at the snow covered yard. The blustering  wind is still blowing  the snow around. Georgie  sighs looking  out the window as she puts the pie she made in the oven. "That storm is bad, I hope Pumpkin  is okay." Georgie  says as Mira nods, whimpering  , causing  Georgie  to pick her up. After a moment the lights went out and Georgie groans. "The snow must be affecting the powerlines" Georgie  tells Mira  while trying  to find her flashlight. 

Mira just groans she never liked being in complete darkness. Of course  Georgie  knew this and instantly  turned on the flashlight. "Well I  can't cook anymore. What do you say about reading  The Christmas Carol?" Georgie  asks as Mira nods she loved listening  to  Georgie read. Plus she wanted to be near to Georgie  right now. She just wished Pumpkin  was with her too. She didn't  know a lot about Christmas, but she knew it was about family, and no matter how much she and Pumpkin disagreed  Pumpkin  was her older sister. She may not look up to her at all, but again Pumpkin  was Pumpkin. 

She just curled up by Georgie listening  as Georgie  started reading.

"Watch your step, it's  icy!" Jade barks out as she looks at the icy lake that they all knew was at Broadway park. They knew they we re w getting  close to Pumpkin's home but it would  literally  take a day to walk through  all of this snow. Going  across the icy lake was the quickest, yet most dangerous  way to get her home. 

"Alright, Leashed Dog, remember  what I taught you  last year. Use your claws to dig in." Diamond says taking  a step on the fresh ice, and immediately  digs her claws into it taking  a few steps forward. "It's  safe now come on we gotta get you home." Diamond says as she started trotting  on the ice. Pumpkin just took a gulp and followed slowly.  The ice was slippery  under her paws, but after gett  her bearings and started to run as fast as she could  on the ice.

"Um I  wouldn't  look now, but the ice is cracking!  I told you it wasn't a good idea." Jade says scrambling  quickly to get away from the breaking ice Pumpkin and  Diamond just scramble  faster. Over to the edge of the lake. That is before  the ice broke completely.  Diamond  and Jade were able to land harshly on the rocky  bank. Pumpkin landed in the freezing  water. 

"It's  cold, it's cold, it is cold." Pumpkin  barks out quickly scrambling  to the shore and immediately  shaking off the freezing water right on to her two friends. Who groan at the cold water.

"Pumpkin!" Both yelped as they shook their fur off. As now the cold water was on them too.

"Sorry  now let's go before  we all turn into pupsicles and catsicles. Pumpkin  says quickly running  off in the direction  her apartment  was in. The two animal friends quickly followed behind.still ridding their fur of freezing water.

They continued through  the ever rising snow. This was going  to be biggest snow that New York had had in quite a while. "Well this has been fun except  for the freezing water." Jade says panting as Diamond  nods letting  her paw steps be over took by the freezing, powdery  snow.

Jade just nods in agreement. "It has been a wild day. That's  for sure." Diamond  says with a snicker. This caused Jade and Pumpkin  to laugh.

"You know everyday with Pumpkin. " Jade says with an eye roll as the leash dog had got them in to plenty of trouble. 

"Alright  stop talking about that. I'm almost  home anyways." Pumpkin  says looking at the snow covered apartment  building. She then runs faster to the door of the place.

"Pumpkin  there you  are." Natalie one of the workers says, opening the door for the wet puppy. "Georgie  is upstairs, the power is out though so you'll  have to use the stairs." Natalie told  the puppy  who nods running up the stairs taking  two at a time to get to her apartment. When she got there she started barking  crazily.

"Alright  well that's the end of chapter  3 I'm  going  to  get a drink of water." Georgie  says using  her flashlight  to find a bottle of water.  That's when she heard Pumpkins  bark and smiled going  to the door. "Hey Diva Dog your late." Georgie  tells the dog playfully  as Mira perked up from her spot.

"Yeah, I had a heck of a time getting  back, but I'm  here now." Pumpkin  barks happily nuzzling her wet fur on Georgie's  hand.

"Pumpkin your  soaked let's  get you dry." Georgie  says as Pumpkin  nods gratefully  she was home for Christmas, and now she could enjoy her family's  company  Pumpkin  loved this life and her laugh
