Wei Wuxian
Birth Name: Wei Ying / Courtesy Name: Wei Wuxian / Title: Yiling Laozu
     Sword: Suibian
     Dizi (type of flute): Chenqing
     Hufu (Tiger tally): Yin Hufu
     Son of Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren.  Taken in by the YunmengJiang sect when he was nine.  At start of this story the destruction of the Yin Hufu causes a backlash that sends his consciousness back in time.

Lan Wangji
Birth Name: Lan Zhan / Courtesy Name: Lan Wangji / Title: Hanguang-jun
     Sword: Bichen
     Guqin (Zither): Wangji
     Younger brother of Lan Xichen. Has a reputation for being honourable, but cold and rigid.  Most people, even those older than him, find him intimidating.

Lan Xichen
Birth Name: Lan Huan / Courtesy Name: Lan Xichen / Title: Zewu-jun
      Sword: Shuoyue
      Xiao (type of flute): Liebing
     Heir/Sect Leader of GusuLan sect.  Assumed the duties of leadership as a teenager since the Sect Leader, his father, was in seclusion.

Wei Qing
Birth Name: Wei Qing / Previous Name: Wen Qing
     Distant cousin of Wen Rouhan.  In the future she and the remaining members of her branch of the family take the huge step of changing their surname as part of adopting Wei Wuxian into their family.  She is the older sister of Wei Wuxian and Wei Qionglin.  It is unclear how, but the backlash of Yin Hufu has also sent her consciousness back in time. 

Wei Qionglin
Birth Name: Wei Ning / Courtesy Name: Wei Qionglin / Title: Gui Jiangjun (Ghost General)
Previous Names: Wen Ning / Wen Qionglin
     Distant cousin of Wen Rouhan.  His surname was changed along with the rest of his family  in the future as part of adopting Wei Wuxian.  Younger brother of Wei Qing and Wei Wuxian.

Wei Nuan
Birth Name: Wei Nuan / Previous Name: Wen Nuan
     Wei Yuan's older sister.  In the original timeline she died, most likely in the labour camp before Wei Wuxian rescued the Dafan Wens.

Wei Yuan
Birth Name: Wei Yuan / Previous Name: Wen Yuan
     Youngest member of the Dafan Wens to survive the war/labour camps.  He was adopted by Wei Wuxian when they were living in the Burial Mounds.

Jiang Yanli
Birth Name: Jiang Yanli
     Oldest child of Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian.  Older sister of Jiang Wanyin, and treats Wei Wuxian as a little brother even though there was no formal adoption.

Jiang Wanyin
Birth Name: Jiang Cheng / Courtesy Name: Jiang Wanyin / Title: Sandu Shengshou
     Sword: Sandu
     Whip: Zidian
     Youngest child of Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian.  Heir of the YunmengJiang sect.

Jiang Fengmian
Courtesy Name: Jiang Fengmian
     Sect Leader of YunmengJiang sect.  Found Wei Wuxian on the streets and brought him to Lotus Pier.

Yu Ziyuan
Birth Name: Yu Ziyuan
     Whip: Zidian
     Madam of YunmengJiang sect. 

Lan Qiren
Courtesy Name: Lan Qiren
     Younger brother of Qingheng-jun.  Raised his two nephews and assumed the duties of sect leader in his brother's place until Lan Xichen was old enough to take over.

Qingheng-jun
Title: Qingheng-jun
     Father of Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji.  Technically Sect Leader of GusuLan sect, but has been in seclusion the entirety of his sons' lives.

Luo Qingyang
Birth Name: Luo Qingyang / Nickname: Mianmian
     Disciple from the WuzhouLi sect.

Nie Huaisang
Courtesy Name: Nie Huaisang / Title: Head-Shaker
     Younger brother of Nie Mingjue.  Has been sent to study in Cloud Recesses multiple years in a row because he keeps failing.  Has no interest in his family's method of cultivation, deceptively observant and knowledgeable about things that interest him.
