Waking up at 5 a.m., you rolled on your side and instinctively reached for your phone from the nightstand. Turning it on, you scrolled through a few messages and landed on another different unknown number. Your eyes went wild with terror. Stunned, you glanced up at the ceiling, dazed and wondering if this was just a bizarre dream that would soon pass.
Hearing your wife shuffle and mumble something in her sleep, you wanted to avoid disrupting her because she had to leave for work much earlier than you did. Sighing, you lifted the bed sheets to cover her up better as you quietly got out of bed, taking your phone with you.
You thought everything was fine until this happened. Looking down at your phone, you read the message again and again. Vacillating over whether or not to delete it, you decided it'd be wise to hold on to it in case you needed it as future evidence. But evidence for what? For an innocuous prank, or for something far more serious? Shivers of fear ran down your spine just from thinking about it.
Hearing the footsteps of your wife descending the stairs, you placed your phone face down on the counter and pinched the bridge of your nose. This was going to be fun to explain. Turning toward her, you greeted her with the best sunshiny smile you could muster despite how shook up you were.
"Hey, hon. Did you sleep well?"
"I did, until you left the bed," she remarked. "Did you sleep well?"
You let out a humorless laugh. "Eh–kinda. Sorry, I didn't mean to leave so soon."
She tightened her bathrobe. "Don't be sorry, I'll admit I enjoy our morning snuggles and other...morning activities that may involve some degree of–"
"Ah, no! Don't you finish that sentence. You wouldn't want the girls to hear you."
Alcina laughed and threw her head back in amusement. "They won't even be up for at least another hour." She moved around the counter and gave you a warm hug. "Speak your mind. You only leave the bed before I do whenever you're feeling troubled."
"I should tell you," you mumbled into her bathrobe robe as you felt its soft material brush against your cheek, "but I don't want to ruin this pleasant moment between us."
She hugged you tighter. "Dear girl, nothing you could tell me could ever ruin this moment between us."
"Okay...I have a secret crush on your boss."
"Well, aren't you naughty," Alcina laughed, slapping you hard on the butt before letting go of you.
You rubbed your rear end. "Ouch, that kinda hurt, Alci."
"You've had much harder spankings, dear."
A blush crawled up your neck as you raised your hands. "Okay, okay, enough. I take it back! Besides, nothing can hurt this girl!" Puffing out your chest, you posed and imitated Supergirl's stance.
"Supergirl, huh? And who would I be?"
"Lex Luthor." You giggled at her sour expression. "I'm kidding, you'd totally be that super hot and brilliant businesswoman, Lena Luthor! I swear, I'm always shipping Supercorp."
Alcina frowned at you. "She's super hot, you say?"
"Oh, gosh, no! I mean, she's attractive, but no one is as beautiful as you are, my love. The light of my life! So, as much as I'd love to keep up this wonderful moment between us. I do need to tell you something. You remember that number you blocked last night?"
