Under the night sky, aglow with a blanket of stars, you prepared your lesson for the twins. Your assistants were your lovely daughters and wife. The shiny brass telescope on its wooden tripod stood on the lawn. Lady Dimitrescu adjusted its lens once more, angling it upward to provide the most ideal view of the constellations.

"All right, guys! Ready to begin your lesson? Girls! Give your sister the book!"

Out on the grass, your older daughters were teasing their younger siblings and running off with their book titled: Secrets in the Stars. Bela hovered the book over Elana's head before passing it off to Cassandra like a quarterback. Cassandra made a break for the hedge, with Alex chasing after her. Being the faster runner, he caught up to her, tackling her to the ground. "Give it back, Cass!"

Already thirteen years of age, your son was closer to your height. It was astonishing. He and Elana were growing up so fast before your eyes. How you wished you could slow down the seasons.

You missed the days of reading bedtime stories to them and hearing their tiny feet enter into your bedchambers whenever they were scared. They'd join you and your wife in bed many nights, giggling and whispering jokes until they fell asleep. Occasionally, Alcina would let them stay, and other times she'd carry them back to their bedroom while you dozed off. As long as your children stayed close to you and your wife at Castle Dimitrescu, you were happy.  No power on earth could take that from you.

Once Alex wrestled the book out of Cassandra's grip, he waved it above him victoriously. "Elana! I got it! Grab it!"

The bond between him and his sister had only gotten stronger. With you being their primary teacher, they were the masterminds of mischief. If they found themselves bored with their studies, they had their ways of playing hooky from time to time. Such as two weeks ago, when they somehow snuck out of the castle and went hunting in the forest together.

Elana became more skilled with her bow, and Alex proved adept with his crossbow. Their aim was decent enough that you knew to stay out of their way whenever they were practicing alongside their sisters. You never feared Castle Dimitrescu being invaded by intruders. Not when you had your sweet family of hunters.

Daniela then flew right past him, plucking it right out of his grip and disappearing among the hedgerow. Elana pursued her through rows of bushes, catching sight of her head. "Dani! You better hand that over!" When she got close enough, she dove on top of her. The both of them could be heard squealing and yelling as they rolled around in the shrubs. "Give it here!"

"Help me!" Daniela cried, laughing and covering her face with the book cover. "Help! I'm being attacked by a tiny human with a temper!"

"Giv—gimme!" Elana sat on her chest and snatched it from her, only to have her ribs tickled mercilessly. "Stop! No! Not there!"

"Girls!" Alcina was still the more formidable disciplinarian. Between you and your wife's authoritative parenting style, you could easily argue that she was the one who never hesitated to enforce the rules and lay out the consequences. "Do not drop that book in the grass! Books are meant to be read, not played with."

You beckoned all your children to come back to you. "Come on, guys! Let's not make your mother any grouchier."

Alcina glared up at you from her telescope. "I am not grouchy."

You shot her a playful smile. "That's debatable! Elana, open your book and read aloud the first constellation to us."

Your youngest daughter cleared her throat. "Andromeda! It's one of the furthest galaxies that can be seen with the naked eye on very dark nights."
