"Here you are, one iced latte." Alcina sat down across from you, pushing your drink forward.

"Thank you."

By now, you had been working for her for a month, and you couldn't have loved your job more. The benefits were incredible. Your new schedule allowed you to visit your parents far more often. Being her personal assistant, you didn't interact with her all that much throughout the earlier part of the day. She was a woman whose schedule was packed with meetings, involving decisions about the company's operations, investments, product development, and more. However, despite how occupied she was, she always found time to ask you how you were doing.

Initially, you started out having a lunch break with her once a week. Then once turned into twice, and now, almost every day of the week. Not that you complained, Alcina was a fascinating woman with much knowledge and charm. She was easy to like, yet not someone you'd want to anger either.

"How are your parents?"

You smiled at her. "They're good. My dad is feeling better, and my mom is hosting a bingo night or something with her friends. My dad just watches her and laughs most of the time."

"Your mother sounds like she's a good host."

"She is! She's very outgoing. Actually, she and I will go to this club during the weekend and do karaoke together. Her beautiful voice often drowns out my terrible voice."

Alcina furrowed an eyebrow at you. "Come on now, I'm sure your voice isn't that terrible."

"It's—enough about me. What about you? Can you sing?"

"I can. Decently, I'd say."

"Well, hey, there we go!" You lit up at that. "You ought to swing by sometimes and try out karaoke. My mom and I would cheer you on."

She chuckled, making your heart flutter for a moment. "I'll have to think about that. Oh, I almost forgot to mention this. There's a symphony at the concert hall tomorrow evening." As your boss, she couldn't directly ask you to come with her, yet if she convinced you to show up, she'd find you. "If you're interested, that is. You told me last week how much you loved listening to classical music."

"You're right, I do. Are you going?"

"I suppose you'll have to come and find out, won't you?" Alcina lifted her drink to hide the smirk forming on her red lips from seeing the faint blush on your cheeks. "But I also may be held up at work. You know how busy I am."

Your hope was deflated slightly. "Yes, I do. How do you handle all of that pressure? If I were the CEO for a single day, I'd feel so overwhelmed."

"It's a difficult ascent, even for the most seasoned leaders. But with the right guidance, effort, skills, and experience, it's achievable. Ah, our lunch hour is up." You stood up when she did. "Time for us to go back to work."

You walked out of the café, holding the door open for her. "I'm ready when you are, Ms. Dimitrescu."

When she smiled brightly at you, that was when you knew you needed to make it to that concert.

After your shift ended that day, you drove straight home to dig through your closet. You spent at least forty minutes trying on different dresses, vacillating between choosing casual or more formal attire. A part of you wished to impress Alcina, and the other part of you wanted to be comfortable if you were to sit through a two-hour-long symphony. You settled on a black cocktail dress, which allowed more freedom for your legs. Then you reminded yourself that you were only dressing up for the symphony. It wasn't like you were going on an actual date with your boss. 'No, of course not. Out of the question,' you thought.
