Alcina whistled for her horse, intending to chase after yours. That was until a cloud colored steed caught up to it. The rider, wearing all black, snatched your horse's reins and slowed it down to a gradual stop. Turning around, the rider readjusted her raisin black hat on her head and grinned upon seeing the tall woman.
"Howdy, Alci! Where's your partner at? Did a tornado suck her up?"
Barely hiding her grimace, Alcina let out a disappointed sigh. "Donna. Your timing is remarkable, as always." She stepped onto the dusty road and took hold of your horse, whispering soothing words to it and petting its mane. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me, hun!" Donna rubbed her own horse's neck with affection. "Thank Angie! You can always count on her to save the day!"
"I'm not thanking your horse," Alcina deadpanned, looking around the town for you.
Donna dismounted Angie and wiped her hands on her leather chinks. "Well, I can tell you're all beer and skittles. What's the problem? Did your spark break up with you? No, let me guess! Y/N headed south to become a bronc buster? I hear 'em wild horses are legendary down there."
Gritting her teeth, Alcina spat out her answer. "No! She's gone!"
Donna's face fell. "What? Are you sayin' she went missing? What happened?"
"I don't know. She...we were at the pub just an hour ago and then she left. I was going after her and then the town was under attack. I only know that she'd never leave her horse behind. Something's happened to her." It made her sick to her stomach, saying that last part aloud. She didn't dare entertain the idea of someone stabbing you to death with their knife.
"Then we have to look for her!" Returning to her saddle, Donna clicked her tongue and waited for Alcina to follow her. "Let's go! No time to waste!"
"Stop! Stop! Cool yer heels for one moment!" Karl dragged a bandit into view with handcuffs slapped on his wrists. "Don't go anywhere just yet. Our new "friend" here has got some useful information for us." Karl glared at the husky man and yanked him by the arm. "He saw what happened to her. Lawson's gang ambushed her during the skirmish. They took her to the canyon. No doubt Lawson's got a personal grudge. He'll probably shoot her himself."
"Or throw her body into a ravine," Donna muttered, falling dead silent when Alcina scowled at her.
"Anyway," Karl continued. "There's no use in going after her now. It'll be too dark by the time you reach the valley. I can guarantee neither of you will survive if you go without backup. Just wait till' early morning and take several of my riders with you. Bring her back. Do what you want with Lawson. I ain't cleaning no cell for the likes of him. He had his chance at a fair trial, and he blew it."
"You're not coming?" Donna asked him.
"Nope. Someone's got to watch out for the townsfolk. Alcina? Until you get your partner back, Donna's going to be your new one. Play nice, ladies."
Alcina scoffed, getting ready to mount her steed. "Like hell, that's going to happen. I'm leaving tonight. With or without help."
"Dammit, Alci!" Karl growled. "Sometimes you are as crooked as a Virginia fence! Your stubbornness will be your downfall."
"Yeah," Donna agreed, attempting to dissuade Alcina. "What will I tell your girlfriend when I rescue her? Oh, you died because you were being too pigheaded like usual. Look, you once said y'all wanted to settle down on some ranch, right? How are you goin' to have that dream with her if you die tonight?"
Alcina refused to listen to them and guided your steed toward her stable. They made a point, and she knew it. But how could she go to sleep tonight, knowing you wouldn't be there to keep her warm? To tickle her nose with your hair, or how you would forget to take your filthy boots off before getting onto the bed with her? It was tortuous for her to imagine a future without having a partner by her side. Having nobody to comfort and love, and in return, not being comforted and loved. "Tomorrow. I shall see you in the morning, Donna."
