The ship's sails were sundered after another crack of thunder boomed throughout the Black Sea. Tempestuous waves rolled onto the deck and slammed you and your crew mates against the bulkhead. The rain made it too heavy for any of you to see through this storm. The rudder was broken, and your captain was doing all in his power to steer her away from the jagged rocks. These massive waves that continued to assault all of you were about to capsize this vessel. The chance of survival was hopeless.

Expelling the salt water from your mouth, you rubbed your eyes and witnessed another sailor fall off the deck to their dismal demise, becoming another poor, lost soul in these endless, dark waters. Your greatest fear was falling into the abyss. What creatures would await you in the deep-sea? Although you wouldn't be alive to know it, you'd have plenty of nightmares of sea monsters of astronomical size, opening their mouths wide to swallow you whole after sinking their rows and rows of razor-sharp teeth into you.

How your crewmen would try to frighten you with their ghostly storytelling, which you never paid much attention to such fantastical tales. Your nightmares were enough to handle. What a privilege it was for you to sail with your captain. An honorable and good man who disregarded those old-fashioned sailor superstitions that claimed a female could not set sail with a crew because of carrying bad luck. Bad luck that could cast a wicked bewitchment over the seas and put all at risk.

"Captain Baciu!" Pushing yourself to climb the ladder, you found him struggling with turning the helm, his brawny arms shaking and his beard drenched.

"Y/N! Lass, take cover!" You could barely hear him among these merciless winds. "I can't get her off these rocks!"

You lost your balance and almost slipped off the rung. If you could reach him, you hoped you could be of help. But then the ship tipped further, leaning too far to the right. All the cargo, goods, materials, and crates all slid down to one side. You then gazed up and with the creaking of the mast, you watched in horror as it snapped and came crashing down, terrifying everyone who was left on board. Out of desperation and panic, they jumped over, rather settling for their doomed fate in the sea than being crushed to death by something coming from the ship. You weren't yet ready to meet that outcome, not that you had much of a choice. Like the others, you'd either throw yourself over or the ship would do it for you.

"I can't save her!" the captain bellowed, dismayed. "We must abandon her." Looking over at you, the last one remaining by his side, a flash of regret passed through him, making him wish he had never set out on this voyage. The ship then overturned the rest of the way, flinging you and him into the ripping waves. Within moments, he vanished from your sight, and then you went under.

The force of the waves was too powerful for you to swim up to catch your breath. It's like the waters just came crashing down on you like a waterfall, time and time again. Unrelenting and cold. You had swallowed too much of it, and you were sinking farther down. Tragically, you would soon join the rest of your crew. With no strength left, you surrendered.

Upon opening your eyelids, you were met by daylight, and more specifically, sand. Grains of sand getting into your dry eyes and lodging themselves in your tear ducts. Feeling sore, as if someone had just pummeled you to the ground, you rolled onto your back and heard the pounding surf and trills of seashore birds. How dumbfounding. You were along Romania's coastline near the Port of Constanța.

Forcing yourself to stand, your legs wobbled and then collapsed. Blinking the particles of sand from your eyes, you squinted and could see that none of your crew mates or captain were anywhere near you. You were the sole survivor. Your heart sank as you realized that you'd lost all of them: your friends.
