Three little monkeys followed you inside Dimitrescu Wine Corporation. You held one monkey in your arms, and the other two monkeys attached themselves to your ankles like chain shots. Their names were Daniela, Cassandra, and Bela.

You and your wife had expanded your family by adopting these precious little girls a few years after you got married. One of the things that meant the most to you was that your daughters showered your father with love by drawing pictures for and spending quality time with him for eight months before he passed away from sudden cardiac death. As for your mother, she doted on them as their grandma, spoiling them with sweet gifts, their favorite cooked meals, and taking them on outings whenever they wanted.

"Momma! Momma!" Cassandra tugged on the hem of your shirt, begging for your attention. "Can we ride the elevator all the way to the top of the building and then all the way back down? Please? I want to push the buttons!"

"No, I want to push them!" Bela argued, feeling like she had the right to because she was the eldest.

"Girls, we can ride the elevator up to your mom's office, and then we'll ride it down together."

Your little red-headed girl leaned her head against your chest, yawning while clutching her stuffed mushroom. "We're rescuing Mom!"

You hugged her closer as the elevator doors opened. "That's right, Dani. Your mom works too hard. She needs a break."

This past week, your wife was staying at the office too late. She had missed dinner with all of you on several occasions, and she wasn't slipping into the sheets to hug you until long after you put the girls to bed. It wasn't her fault, of course. Her workload was heavier. But tonight was going to be different. You would not allow Alcina to stay cooped up within the walls of her office. She belonged at home with her family.

As you rode the elevator up while lecturing your daughters to stop fighting over who got to push the buttons, you dreamed about the day when Alcina would retire. You wanted her to spend more at home, continuing to raise the girls with you and watch them grow up. You had even discussed with your wife how you'd like to take them on trips around the country once they were older. Maybe a trip to Europe or on a cruise to the sunny Eastern Caribbean Islands.

When the elevator doors opened, Cassandra and Bela raced to their mother's office, yelling something incoherent. They charged through her door like goats, causing her to glance up at them from her paperwork. "Mom! Mom! Moooom!"

Their mother smiled at them. "Hello, girls. What brings you to my office at this time of night?"

Cassandra ran over to her desk, snatching the bronze statue of a tree off it. She then raised it in the air, shutting one eye and acting as though she was about to hurl it at the wall.

Alcina sighed, setting down her pen. "Cassandra Dimitrescu, put that statue down! That is not a spear."

She giggled, tossing it back onto her desk. "It looks like one, though!"

"It's literally a tree," Bela remarked with an eyeroll. "It looks nothing like a spear."

Cassandra then dug through her mom's pen holder, grabbing one. "Now I have a sword! Run!" With an evil glint in her eyes, she began chasing her older sister around the room. "Here I come, piggy! The big bad wolf's going to getcha!"

"Stop!" Bela screamed, taking cover behind one of the solid wood arm chairs. "Leave me alone!"

Alcina hung her head, realizing she would not get any work done with her children treating her business office like a playhouse. But she didn't mind because she knew she had neglected spending time with them. It killed her to be here instead of at home with you and her girls. Getting up, she reached for her coat before she saw you come in with Daniela in your arms. Her smile grew brighter upon seeing you. "There are my other girls. I wondered where you were."
