[A few readers wanted to see a sequel to this one-shot, so I've decided to add more. It may turn out 3–4 chapters long. Just a short story navigating the waves of grief and moments of finding light in the darkness. Hope you enjoy it!]

"Unbelievable! Five days!"

Driving away from the school parking lot, you gripped the steering wheel harder. You glanced into the rearview mirror to read your daughters' faces. It was a rarity for your wife to raise her voice. Whenever she did, it was unsettling.

"What were you two thinking?" Alcina fumed in the passenger's seat, twisting her neck around to glower at her daughters, who sank lower and lower in their seats from her scolding. "Starting a fight in the cafeteria? What possessed you to do such a thing?"

"She had it coming," Cassandra said in an apathetic tone. She turned her gaze to look out the window so she wouldn't cry in front of all of you. "She should've kept her mouth shut."

In the cafeteria, Cassandra walked past the rows of tables with her food tray in her hands. She was in no mood to be social, so she passed by her usual spot to find a more secluded area. She couldn't handle any more questions from her friends or from other students about Daniela's death. Although most of them had been nothing but empathetic toward her and Bela, they still desired to know the graphic details of her demise. But neither she nor Bela would provide those details to any of them, knowing full well that it would only turn into mindless chatter.

When she passed by one particular table, she overheard one of the more popular girls make a loud and nasty remark about her baby sister. The remark caused her to freeze in her steps. She would let no one talk trash about sister.

This girl by the name of Kelly locked eyes with Cassandra. "Hey, Cass. We were just talking about Daniela and how much we miss her. She was so vibrant and funny. So, what happened in that bus accident? Tell us everything. We heard it was brutal. Was she, like, thrown from the bus? Or was she completely crushed in it?" Half of her group of friends at the table giggled, while the other half shot her their looks of disappointment. "How severe were her injuries? Did she lose any limbs?"

"Kelly, stop it," one of her friends mumbled to her. "Leave her alone."

"Hey," Kelly laughed off her friend's chastisement, grinning wider. "I'm sorry, Cassandra. Really. I can't even imagine what you and Bela are going through. I mean, if I had a little sister, which I don't, I could never have a proper night's sleep knowing she turned up like a flat squirrel."

And that was when Cassandra saw red. Her food tray crashed to the floor. The brunette launched herself at her, swinging her fist right at her face. She punched Kelly right out of her seat, sending her flying to the ground. "You bitch!" Rage consumed her, making Cassandra even angrier at the world because Daniela was never coming back, and there was not a single thing she could do about it. She had never felt so lost in her life. "You think that shit's funny? Bet you won't be laughing when I flatten your skull!"

A few of Kelly's friends immediately jumped up from their spots, rushing at Cassandra to prevent her from beating the living daylights out of their friend. They kept shoving her backwards and blocking her from reaching her, which only stirred up more trouble overall. Many of the students from the other surrounding tables started chanting in unison, "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

When Bela got up from her seat to turn around to see who was fighting in the cafeteria, her eyes widened in horror. Cassandra was being shoved around by the group of girls, which prompted her to rush to her sister's defense. Raw anger shot through her as she bolted across the room.

"Get off her!" Bela yelled, pushing the girls away with significant force, even knocking one of them down accidentally. "Back off! Just back off!" Amidst all the shoving and screaming, she managed to grab her sister by the arm, yanking her out of the chaos. "Cass! Stop!"
