Following the blinding lightning, the winds howled around the edges of the castle as the thunder roared nearby, cleaving the thick, dark skies. Not that you minded. Thunder was melodious to your ears. Yet tonight, its blaring sounds may have been too close to your liking.

"Are you awake?"

Lifting your head, you made out the shadowy figure of a young girl tip-toeing your room. "Daniela? Is that you?"

She slipped through the door and was making her way over to you. "Yeah, it's me. I'm just wondering if you're okay?"

You angled your arm upwards and propped your chin on your hand. "I'm okay, thanks for checking. Are you?"

"Of course. We're having an intense storm tonight, huh?"

You peeked out your window and saw yet another flash of light. "That we are. Is the storm bothering you?"

"What? Bothering me?" She pursed her lips and waved her hand dismissively. "Nah, not at all. Storms don't trouble me." After another bolt of lightning lit up the room, followed by an ear-splitting crackle, she appeared at the end of your bed. It never ceased to amaze you how fast the Dimitrescu daughters could move.

The corner of your mouth lifted as you gave her a knowing look. "So, storms don't trouble you at all, hm?"

"Never!" She stood tall with her head high. "It's just I can't find Mother. She's not in her room. And my sisters, I'm not sure where they are. Since I can't find any of them, I thought maybe you'd like some company or something?"

You smiled at her and moved over a little on your bed, patting the vacant spot. "Sure, why not? We can watch and listen to the storm together."

She happily accepted your invitation and crawled up beside you, grabbing your other pillow to cuddle. "I'm good with that. Maybe it'll pass soon."

It wasn't a moment later that someone opened your door like a thunderclap and darted into the room. As soon as Bela spotted you, she rushed toward your bed and jumped. When Daniela let out a loud groan, you lit the candle by your bed to provide more light.

"Ow! Are you blind? I was lying right here!" Daniela rubbed her stomach and slapped her sister's shoulder.

"Sorry! I didn't see you there. Are you guys hearing this storm right now?"

"No, I'm pretty sure we're deaf, Bela," Daniela remarked in a sardonic tone.

"Attitude," Bela quipped. "But really, that thunder was intense!"

You nodded at her. "It was. The storm is getting closer. Is it making you nervous?"

"Well, maybe a little." She fidgeted with her necklace. "It's not like storms scare me, yet this one is much louder than I expected. It's making it difficult for me to fall asleep."

"Scaredy-cat!" Daniela bumped her sister's foot.

She smacked her foot away. "Shut up! You're in here, too!"

So much for sleeping. "Guys. Let's just watch the storm? I'm sure it'll pass soon."

"I hope so," Bela whispered. She then squeezed herself in between the both of you, ignoring her sister's vehement protests.
