Swinging her wooden sword around, Elana sliced the air to defeat her invisible enemies. "Alex! The Lycans are coming in!"

Alex, wielding his blade and a steel pan lid he had stolen from the kitchen, pivoted on his heel. He kicked his leg into the air, imagining his boot smashing the creature's jaw as he dramatically thrust his sword into its chest. "And stay down!"

After finishing her brutal assault on one of the pillars composed of stratified limestone, Elana heaved and groaned from her wearied condition. Despite the dozens of Lycans she had slain, she continued to press on in this bloody battle. Victory was at hand. "More are coming! Quick! To the south!"

Baffled, his head looked from one end of the courtyard to the other. "Uh, what direction is south? Is it that way?"

She aimed her blade at the golden door that led to the southern stairwell. "Ugh, no, it's the other way! Hurry! We must take shelter!"

As she was charging down the stairs coming from the northern side, she skipped a step and went crashing to the ground. Unfortunately, when she had landed on the hilt of her sword, her pinky had taken the hardest hit. Of the three small phalanges of her finger, her proximal phalanx had cracked from the impact of her fall. A piercing scream ripped from her throat as she curled in on herself. The pain was excruciating enough that she could not move any part of her body at all. It was unbearable for her.

Frozen in place, Alex's eyes widened when he heard his sister crying. "El?"

Her screams sounded as if someone's sword had stabbed her in the gut. His face became ashen when he found her on the ground, drowning in her tears as her face further reddened with each sob. For the twins, they could feel each other's pain. If one was suffering, the other felt it. Her misery was his misery. He couldn't bear to see her in this helpless state.

"Elana!" He tried to lift her up, only for her screams to increase tenfold, forcing him to plug his ears. "What happened?"

As her face twisted in agony, she forced herself to yell out, "Get M-mama!" Her eldest sister burst through the doors at full speed upon hearing her wails. Bela had known the twins were letting their imagination run wild out here. She regretted not checking on them sooner.

"Whoa, what happened here, El?" Attempting to pick up her tiny body, Elana recoiled from her and begged her to not touch her.

"I think she fell coming down the stairs," Alex cried, looking close to tears. How scared he was for her sake.

Realizing that her baby sister had done more damage than she thought, Bela yelled for help. She had to get you or her mother. "Alex, stay here with her. I have to find Mama or someone to help us get your sister inside."

He reached for the end of her hooded black dress and tugged at it desperately, tears now spilling down his cheeks. "Don't go! Don't leave us!"

Her heart broke at the sight of his tear-stained and pathetic face. But his sister wasn't getting any better. She needed to be looked at. "Alex, I need to get you both inside."

That's when you entered the scene, having heard both of your babies yelling and crying. You rushed over to your eldest and stared down in horror at your distressed daughter. "What's going on? Elana?" You dropped to the ground to be by her, placing a gentle hand over her shaking form as she panicked even more. "Honey? Mama's here. Can you sit up?"

Sobbing, she shook her head furiously, rolling into a tighter ball to guard herself. That was when you noticed her pinky. You cringed at how it was crooked. Her first broken bone. "Bela, take your brother and get your mother. Have her meet us in the medical wing and so she can take a look at her. She's broken her finger."
