Inside the Susanoos, we were completely cut off from the world. I couldn't help but worry about everyone that had gotten caught in the infinite Tsukuyomi. We all sat in silence as we waited for the night to pass.
We weren't sure how long we had been stuck under the Susanoos. Sakura was the first to break the silence. "What's going on outside?"
"What difference does it make to you?" Sasuke snapped. "There's nothing that you can do about it anyway".
"You don't have to be so rude!" I snapped at him. "She's just worried, we all are..." I was surprised by the aggression in my voice. Perhaps there was still a part of me that hadn't forgiven him.
Everything was silent for a moment.
Suddenly, Sasuke knelt down in front of me and placed my hands in his. "I'm sorry for what I did. The truth is I was a little jealous of your relationship with Itachi, how you chose him over me. And I took it out on you that day on the Great Samurai Bridge. And it made me angry that you were so willing to stand against me, even if you were just protecting someone else".
I shook my head and squeezed his hands. "I never chose Itachi over you. I left because I was protecting you. You were always my number one. I even put you before my mission". I turned to Kakashi Sensei. "Don't tell Aunty Tsunade that". I turned back to Sasuke. "Since the day I was born, all I ever wanted was your safety. That's why I chased after you all those years, because I was worried about you. You are my best friend, I will always worry about you". I wrapped my arms around him and smiled when he returned the hug.
"I have something for you," he said as he pulled a small bag out of his pocket and held it out to me.
I gave him a confused look before taking the bag. I opened it and peered inside to see two Sharingan eyes. My eyes widened.
I whipped my head towards him with a shocked look on his face. "Is this...?" He simply gave me a small smile in answer. "When did you...? Did you collect these during the war?"
He gave a nod.
I threw my arms around him, unintentionally tackling him to the ground. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
He pushed me off him and brushed himself off before giving me a gentle smile. "I can't have my sister going blind, now can I?"
I couldn't help but blush a little at the title he hadn't used in so long.
He stood up and turned back to the others, finally answering Sakura's question. "Madara has launched his Genjutsu. it's a powerful Genjutsu, and I suspect that everyone outside has fallen under its spell. We five might be the only ones not affected".
Naruto widened his eyes but Kakashi Sensei and I weren't surprised.
"So when can we get out?" Naruto asked.
"The Genjutsu seems to use the moon's light," Sasuke answered. "And over time, that's gradually going to decrease".
"So we'll wait until the sun comes up," I finished for him.
We sat in silence as we waited for the sun to come up.
As soon as the Infinite Tsukuyomi lost its power, we removed our Susanoos. We faced Zetsu and Madara.
Sasuke, Naruto and I were able to sense his shadows surrounding us.
We looked around and saw everyone wrapped up in cocoons. "Look, all the fighting as shinobi has come to an end now," Madara showed us. "I've transformed hell into heaven, I've finally corrected Hashirama's mistake".
"What are you talking about?" Sakura and I asked.
"In the beginning, both Hashirama and I had the same ambitions, and we worked together to try and achieve them. We tried to change the shinobi world, the abominable system that sent barely grown children out to fight in wars. The two of us founded the first shinobi village, but even that did not result in true peace. People simply aren't able to show each other their true feelings. Fear, suspicion, resentment. They never subside. My opinions and concerns were pushed aside and the shinobi world moved forward in accordance with Hashirama's vision. And what happened because of it? Fighting amongst shinobi hasn't stopped. Instead, establishing hidden villages led to an increase in military build-up, resulting in skirmishes that turned into great wars, with countless lives lost. There was the first Great Ninja War, the second Great Ninja War, the third Great Ninja War. The fighting never stopped. That's the shinobi world Hashirama created".
"Yeah, but you're not really one to talk". I pointed my sword at him. "After all, it's because of you that we're here now, on this battlefield. It's because of you that so many people have died, including our friends and families!"
"All that I am seeking to do is become the saviour that ends the long history of fighting that ends shinobi," Madara defended his actions.
Suddenly, Zetsu came up behind Madara and literally stabbed him in the back. Our eyes widened.
"Wrong, Madara," Zetsu said. "You are not the saviour, nor is this the end of things".
"Have to admit, I did not see this coming," I muttered.
"How can you say that you, unlike Obito, are able to completely take advantage of others?" Zetsu continued. "Isn't it presumptuous to think that you alone are different?"
I rolled my eyes and stepped forward. "Yeah, yeah. Why don't you skip the philosophical talk and tell us who you're really working for?"
Everyone turned to look at me. Zetsu glared at me. "Fine. My will is Kaguya's".
My eyes widened. "Wait- Kaguya as in the mother of the Sage of Six Paths? That Kaguya?"
Suddenly, Madara started to struggle and his shadows disappeared. Chakra then started to arise from the ground and flow into Madara. He started swelling and looked like he was going to explode. Just before he was swallowed by the chakra, the swelling stopped and Madara was replaced by the reborn Kaguya Ōtsutsuki.
