The next day, the four of us met up at our usual meeting spot. As usual, Kakashi Sensei was late. His excuse for the day: "I got lost on the path of life". He showed up with pieces of paper which he handed to us. Upon closer inspection, I noticed they were application forms for the Chūnin Exams. He said that if we wanted to participate, all we had to do was fill them out and hand them in at room 301 of the academy in five days. Then we all went our separate ways.
I was walking through the forest thinking about the Exams and what the women were saying about my father and also that guy I had met the previous day, Gaara. I knew that I wanted to take the exam, but I couldn't help but feel nervous. I believed if I passed the exam, then I'd be one step closer to being strong enough to avenge my mother and brother.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I felt a presence nearby. I pulled out my kunai and yelled, "Alright, show yourself".
I heard rustling in the trees and felt the presence getting closer to me, from my back. I whirled around just in time to block his attack. As I was looking him over, I noticed something strange. "A shadow clone, huh? So where's your real body?" Then he disappeared in a puff of smoke. I shrugged my shoulders then headed home.
Five days later, the four of us met up outside the academy with our signed application forms. We'd reached the second floor when we heard a commotion, so we went to investigate. Apparently, there were some kids blocking the entrance to what everyone thought was room 301, so Sasuke called them out. "Reverse the Genjutsu, we can see through your illusion anyway. Go ahead, tell them (Y/N). I'm sure you saw it before anyone else did".
"This is only the second floor," I replied with a smile.
The number on top of the door changed to 201. One of the boys was about to attack and Sasuke was prepared to counter when a boy around our age with bushy eyebrows and a bowl-cut hairstyle rushed in the middle and stopped both of their attacks.
After that, he walked up to Sakura with a blush on his cheeks. "My name is Rock Lee. You are Sakura, right? Please be my girlfriend". I put my hand over my mouth in an attempt to stop myself from laughing. She rejected him, of course.
As we walked away, I glanced at Sakura with a sly smile. "Sakura's got a boyfriend," I teased in a sing-song voice.
Her cheeks turned red. "He's not my boyfriend!" She moved to punch me, but I dodged smoothly. I clutched my stomach because it was hurting from laughing too much.
I looked around to see Sasuke eyeing us weirdly. "Since when did you two become best friends?" Sasuke knew that I didn't like Sakura.
I shrugged. "I wouldn't necessarily say we're 'best friends,' but we have been getting along better since the Land of Waves".
We had just reached the third floor when we heard a voice behind us. "Hey, you with the attitude, hold on!" We turned around to see Rock Lee.
Rock Lee challenged Sasuke to a fight. It was very clear that Rock Lee was making Sakura incredibly uncomfortable, which I just found amusing. As they were about to fight, Naruto volunteered to fight Rock Lee first, which Sasuke obliged.
It wasn't long before Naruto was knocked on his butt. I found Rock Lee's strength incredible. Then it was Sasuke's turn. After seeing how easily Rock Lee defeated Naruto, I was fearing for Sasuke's life, but that didn't stop him.
Rock Lee seemed to be faster than Sasuke, which is something I didn't think I'd ever see. After getting knocked down, he got back up with a smirk. "I've been waiting to try this out". Then he activated his Sharingan.
I did a double-take. "Wait, when did you activate your Sharingan?!" I yelled in confusion and shock. 'No fair! He activated the Sharingan before I did!' He ignored me, of course, and went charging towards Rock Lee. Even then, Rock Lee still managed to disarm Sasuke.
