Eight days later, I left for the Hidden Grass Village with Itachi. The plan was for him to wait in the village while I went to the meeting alone. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he sent his crow to watch me.
As I predicted, the trip took about two days. On the day of the meeting, I went to Tenchi Bridge a couple of hours before the meeting was to take place as I said I would. After waiting a few minutes, I spotted Sakura, Naruto and two people I didn't recognise heading my way.
"This is Sai and Captain Yamato," Sakura introduced once we were together.
I narrowed my eyes when they landed on Sai. 'He's in the Foundation'. I didn't trust the Foundation, or even worse their leader, Danzo. Not since I found out the truth about the Uchiha massacre.
I turned my attention to Sakura. "Did you go through it?"
She smiled. "I did, thank you". Her smiled was replaced by a frown. "I just can't believe he's turned into this person".
I smiled softly. "That's why we're here". I turned to them with a serious expression. "So what's your plan?"
That's when Captain Yamato stepped up. "I'll do a Transformation Jutsu to transform into Sasori and try to get the information out of him".
I thought about it for a while. "That could work, depending on the intelligence of this person". Then I nodded, approving the plan. For the next couple of hours, we rehearsed the plan. Eventually, it was noon.
'Sasori' and I walked up to the bridge to see a hooded figure already there. When we got closer, he lifted his head and my eyes widened when we saw who it was. "So you're the spy, Big Brother Kabuto. I should've known". I looked down at Sasori for a second before returning my attention to Kabuto.
"Hello again (Y/N)," he said with a soft smile. I couldn't help but return his smile with one of my own.
"Were you followed?" Sasori asked him, turning the atmosphere serious again. I rolled my eyes, still keeping up the act.
Kabuto looked behind himself before turning to look at us again. "It's just the three of us".
"How do you feel?" Sasori asked him.
"I still haven't shaken that strange sensation from when your Jutsu broke and I remembered who I was again," he replied. "My head still feels clouded and heavy". He looked genuinely disturbed.
"We have a few questions for you," Sasori said.
"I don't have much time, so please keep it brief". I glanced behind him just in case. "I risked my life sneaking out to meet you without Orochimaru finding out".
I stiffened as Sasori said, "I want information about Sasuke". I could feel my heart rate increasing and I had to clench my fists to keep my mask up. "As well as the location of your boss's hideout," he continued, paying me no heed.
"Orochimaru has several hideouts," Kabuto replied calmly. "We keep moving to a different one every week to avoid being discovered by the enemy".
"So that's why it took me a year and a half to find Sasuke," I muttered. He smiled in confirmation.
"Many are in the Hidden Sound Village," he continued. "But some hideouts are in other lands too. He has spies everywhere, acting as his eyes and ears. There are so many ways a person can get around, it's not easy to track them".
I rolled my eyes. 'Tell me something I don't know'.
"The current one?" Sasori asked.
"Right now, Orochimaru is hold up on a small island on a lake to the north of here".
Hesitantly, I asked, "Is Sasuke there?"
He nodded. "He is".
"And how is he?" I asked.
He gave me a soft smile. "He's good. He trains endlessly to get strong enough so he can kill your husband".
"I'm guessing my father still plans to use him as a vessel?" I asked with an eyebrow raised.
He nodded again. "Yes, but that time is fast approaching. You don't have much time left to bring him back to the village".
I lowered my gaze for a second before looking back up with a determined expression. This was it. This might be one of the last chances I have to save my brother, although I doubted he was going to come quietly.
"We'll be moving again in three days," Kabuto continued once he noticed I was done with my questioning. "We should discuss the orders you gave me, Lord Sasori. Even after reanimation, Orochimaru uses a protection Jutsu on the specimen for his discarded vessel, so I was unable to analyse their cellular structure as you commanded me. I trust you have the item you promised me". I glanced at Sasori nervously. Neither of us had this 'item'.
Deeming it time to end the charade, Captain Yamato pulled out a kunai, attempting to capture Kabuto. He was just about to strike when my father jumped out of the forest behind Kabuto.
He attempted to use his snakes to bind Kabuto, who just leapt out of the way and joined us. Kabuto prepared a chakra scalpel to strike my father, but instead turned and sliced the puppet. I leapt out of the way as I unsheathed my sword. The jab broke the wooden puppet and Captain Yamato jumped out. My father tried to kill him using the Multiple Striking Shadow Snakes Jutsu, but Yamato used the Substitution Jutsu to escape.
"What is the meaning of this?!" I demanded as Kabuto jumped over to my father's side. "You traitor!"
Naruto, Sakura and Sai chose that time to join us. As we were preparing to fight, a crow flew down and landed on my shoulder. Seeing what Itachi was trying to tell me, I smirked as I sheathed my sword.
My father seemed to be the only one not the least bit surprised by what just happened. "I suggest you listen to him," he said with his usual sadistic smile.
"As I'm sure you already know, my husband is rarely wrong, so I am going to listen to him this time," I replied as I put my hands in a hand sign and transformed into a snake in a puff of smoke. I then slithered off the bridge and out of the way.
Itachi was right. With Kabuto and my father plus my former comrades, I was clearly out of my league. It was best I stay out of this fight. Besides, my mission was to get Sasuke away from my father and to safety and only kill my father if I saw the opportunity, but I had no intention of disappearing just yet. I needed to find that hideout and the safest way to do that was to observe and then follow them.
