Connor woke the next morning, feeling like he had been hit by a freight train. "Avery" he murmured rolling over to catch Ava's waist. Finding her side of the bed empty, the memories of last night came back to him, finding her, operating, and molly's...
"Jay" Connor groaned, putting his hand to his face.

Pulling himself out of bed Connor stumbled around his apartment trying to find his phone.
A knock came over the door and Connor went to answer it.
"Jay?"
"I'm taking you to the hospital so you can be their when Ava wakes up, your still to drunk to drive. She needs you" he told him flatly.
"Thanks man, I'm sorry about last night I was lashing out at you. I don't blame you for what happened. I just wanted someone to pin the blame on" Connor admitted, fidgeting with the door frame.
"I'll be ready in a second I just need to find my blasted"
"Phone" Jay said handing it to him, he'd found it at Molly's after Connor had left.
"Yeah" Connor sighed following him out of the building. The car ride to med was long and awkward, the two men only exchanging light conversations about topics on the radio.

When they made it to Ava's ward her sedation was just being lifted, it would still be a while before she wakes up.
A doctor cane in to meet with Connor as Jay left to go get a coffee.
"Are you immediate family?"
"Sort of, Ava doesn't have much family here" Connor frowned holding Ava's still hand.
"I'll leave you be then Dr. Rhodes, she should be awake soon" the anaesthesiologist said before leaving.
Sitting down on an arm chair Connor read over Ava's stats, she had a low moment in the night where they thought she was getting worse but she turned it around. "I should have been their, not drunk at molly's" Connor nodded to himself squeezing Ava's hand.
Looking at the emergency contact section for med, Ava only has his number down, his old number at that. Connor was considering trying to find some of her med school friends, or a phone number for her farther before something caught his eye on the tablet.

Immediate family
Daughter:
Sophia C. Bekker
Aged: 3
Blood type: 0-

"Date of birth the 17th of the April..." Connors voice trailed off as he read the dates.
Nine months after the night of the Gala. Nine months. Sophia couldn't be Jay's daughter.
Connor looked at Ava's still body before rushing to the crèche. "While I was gone drunk off my ass none could have picked up Sophia" he thought in a blind panic.
Rushing into the crèche he was told that Sophia had been picked up by her god mother.
Calming now at the thought of Sophia being safe Connor finally had a change to think.
"Sophia my daughter, My daughter" Connor thought, smiling to himself in delight.

Connor pushed the door open the Goodwins office without knocking. Rushing in he sees Sophia at Goodwins desk, scooping his daughter up in his arms. Connor held Sophia's head against his chest, smoothing out her blond hair. Sophia laughed in delight at being scooped into the air.
"Dr. Rhodes" a voice came coldly
Looking down to see Goodwin starring up at him from her desk.
"Sophia was born nine months after Ava left Chicago, she's three" Connor sobbed, feeling a flood of emotions.
Goodwin looked down into her hands nervously, avoiding his eye.
"You knew" Connor said quietly.
"You knew. I have seen you everyday for the last three years, and you never told me" he shouted.
"Connor" Goodwin called as he turned out of her office. Still holding Sophia he carried her down to Ava's room.

Ava was still asleep when Connor came in, settling back into the arm chair he looked down at Sophia. "Sophia what's wrong" Connor tried to sooth her seeing her tear stained face.
"Why are you sad" she cried touching Connors face with her hands.
"Oh I'm not my girl, I'm very, very happy to have you hear" Connor told her kissing her forehead.

Two hours later Ava was still down and Sophia was asleep on the sofa next to Connor. He ran a had through her hair before getting up to get a coffee.
On the way back from the doctors lounge Connor ran into Natalie, coming out of Ava's room.
"Hey Connor, Ava's starting to wake up, you should get in their. Who's the little girl by the way"
"That's Sophia, Ava's daughter" Connor said rubbing his eyes, it had been a long day and he'd been running on five hours of sleep.
"Ava has a child?" Nat said in shock, looking back.
"We do" Connor nodded walking away from Nat into Avas room.

Her eyes were fluttering as she struggled to keep them open.
"Shhh, I'm here Avery" Connor soothed her like he had in the elevators, holding her hand, brushing here hair out of her forehead.
"Sophia" Ava croaked her voice hoarse.
"She's right their"
Ava turned her head to look at Sophia on the sofa, finally able to keep her eyes open.
Ava suddenly gasped, grabbing Connors arm "Did he, did the man get any drugs"
"No Ave, we got him before he could steal anything. He got to you though" Connor said sorrowfully, kissing her hand. "I'm fine, I'm fine" she assured him.
Ava took Connors face in her hands and kissed him lightly but passionately. Pulling away but holding her hand to his face, "What was that for?" He asked softly.
"I said I'd kiss you the next time I saw you"
"And for saving my leg" she added cheekily

Natalie watched this science fold out in front of her. "I didn't even know they were together" Natalie whispered to Will. Will looked up to the the two love birds, "Yeah, he was pretty beaten up after she left" Will sighed.
"You knew?" Nat said shocked. Will gave her a short not, looking up at Connor again.
"And they have a three year old daughter, they were together before she left. They were dating when Connor accused her of all those things" Natalie gasped, realising what had happened between the two.

Jay came by about an half an hour later, "Good to see you up Ava, was afraid I was going to loose my favourite CT surgeon their for a bit" Jay jokes. "No offence Connor"
"None taken" Connor could care less about what was said, so long as he could keep looking at Ava, and for her to stay awake.

Goodwin came in, happy to see Sophia safe and well on the sofa. Nodding to Ava she gently picking her goddaughter up, Goodwin carried Sophia up to crèche before returning with officer Voight.
"It's time to talk" Goodwin commanded, closing the door before dramatically pulling the curtain.
