With Ava's shifts being reduced to starting later in the day, Connor and her were coming in at different start times but leaving at the same time in the evening. Thankfully Natalie and her started at the same times most days so they could drive in together after dropping off their kids.
"It's great that Sophia and Owen are getting along so well" Ava said as they drove to med.
"Yeah, I think they think their siblings, with the amount of time they spend together" Natalie chuckled.
"And what about you, should we expect a mini Halstead to be joining us soon?"
Natalie smiled at the road, "I'm thirteen weeks"
"What" Ava gasped, not expecting that answer. As they pulled up to a red light Ava threw her arms around Natalie. "Congratulations, oh this is amazing"
Natalie gave her a squeeze as the light went orange and they continued driving."What do you think it will be?" Ava asked, looking in the rearview mirror.
Natalie placed a hand to her still flat belly, "I'm hoping for girl, but I wouldn't mind a mini Will running around"
"Do you think you'll stop after this one or are you going for three?" Ava said studying the traffic behind them.
"I think we'll go for three, it's easier for me anyway I don't have to take maternity leave quite as quickly as you do" Natalie explained.
"I know, Connors practically trying to force me out of the hospital, but I think we can push on for another few weeks, can't we bump?" Ava held her stomach.
"You call your baby bump?" Natalie smiled at the joy on her friends face.
"In a delirious state I foolishly told Connor he could pick the name, and he hasn't told me what he's decided on. Bump was his idea as well, he calls Sophia his princess"Natalie was glad for Ava's new found happiness, she had felt guilty about not reaching out to her before she left for South African. Even though Ava had repeatedly assured her their was know way she could have known what was happening.
"Nat do you recognise that car behind us?" Ava furrowed her brows, having noticed it taking all the same turns as them.
Nat shook her head, "No, but I've seen it before at the hospital, it's probably just family of a patient" she brushed it off as they pulled into the hospital. Ava nodded and they walked into the ED together.
"Well if it isn't my two favourite women" Rhodes greeted them, spotting them coming through the doors. Ava was immediately in Connors arms, with him placing a secure hand on her bump.
"Good morning to you too Connor" Nat playfully pushed his shoulder.
"You know I love you Nat" Connor called over his shoulder, keeping Ava in his arms.
"How are you" he kissed the top of her head as she pulled away.
"Good yeah, bumps asleep which is good. I'm due in surgery soon" she kissed him.
"Okey Ave, but we should think about getting put onto just consulting soon" he remind her."In coming Dr. Rhodes" Maggie shouted over to him.
"Go, I'll see you later" she kissed him one last time before going over to the elevators to get to CT.After finishing their respective shifts the couple drove to pick up Sophia and the head home.
"I'm sorry you have to drive after a long shift" Ava apologised, shifting in her set to try get comfortable with her seat belt.
"It's fine Ave, honestly. I've driven home after long shifts and I don't want you driving unless it's necessary, your bodies already working hard to support our little happiness" Connor reached a hand out to brush her belly.
Ava rested her head against the seat belt like a hammock, purring slightly. "I love you, Cowboy" Ava closed her eyes.Opening them again when she felt the car go over a speed bump.
"Sorry I tried to go slowly" Connor frowned, hoping Ava would have gotten a little bit more sleep. "Don't worry about it" she assured him.
Looking in the rearview mirror Ava smiled at her sleeping daughters face. Just like Ava, Sophia always fell into a slumber when she was being rocked by the car. Ava eyes lifted to just above her daughters head, spotting a metallic blue pick up truck.
Ava turned in her seat to get a better look at the vehicle.
"Everything okey?" Connor asked, glancing back at the car.
"Yeah, sorry. It's nothing" Ava told him, relaxing back into her chair. Relaxing once she saw the truck take a different turn to them.
